Background

Gu An's early life was marked by the persecution of his family by Shrek Academy. His parents were hunted because of a misunderstanding and because Shrek desired an item his father refused to surrender; his father was consequently absent from Gu An's childhood 1. Gu An later weaponized this history when manipulating Tang Qi, questioning what kind of father could be cruel to his own daughter 83 84. His mother, Gu, was a loving and proud figure who supported him unconditionally, even as he underwent significant transformations 153. She recovered from an unspecified ailment, a development that allowed Gu An to consider moving to Seven Treasures City 9. Gu An's childhood was also characterized by a strategic and ambitious mindset, even from a young age, as he considered ways to "rob the rich to help the poor" and targeted the Seven Treasure Glazed Sect 8. His mother's hopes for him were implicitly tied to his growth and power, as she remained proud and accepting of his changes, including the development of an External Soul Bone 153.

At the age of six, Gu An was recognized by the consciousness of the Legend of the Dragon King Douluo Planet, later known as Xing Yi. This connection gave him access to exceptional martial souls, the ability to summon powerful figures from another Douluo world, and a path toward gathering World Origin by suppressing or seizing the destiny of children of destiny 1 2 3 39. He ultimately pursues godhood through the path of a Creation God, intending to use two Douluo worlds to support his ascent 155.

Key events in Gu An's background include:

  • Family Persecution and Father's Absence: Shrek Academy hunted Gu An's parents over a misunderstanding and an item his father refused to give up, resulting in his father's absence from Gu An's upbringing 1.
  • Recognition by Douluo Planet: The world consciousness entered Gu An during his martial-soul awakening and offered him power, martial souls, and bodyguards 1 2.
  • Mother's Recovery: His mother, Gu, recovered from an illness, which allowed Gu An to plan a move to Seven Treasures City 9.
  • Early Ambition: From a young age, Gu An displayed a strategic and ambitious nature, contemplating actions like targeting the Seven Treasure Glazed Sect 8.
  • Mother's Support: Gu An's mother remained a loving and proud figure, accepting his transformations and supporting his growth 153.
  • Seven Years of Seclusion: Gu An spent seven years cultivating on Douluo Planet under Yun Ming's training, dramatically advancing his soul power, spiritual power, combat experience, and physical maturity 151 155.

Physical Description

Gu An’s appearance underwent several notable transformations over the course of his cultivation journey. He was initially a six-year-old child, but after absorbing his first ten-thousand-year spirit ring, his body grew to resemble that of an eight or nine-year-old 7 32. By the time he condensed his fourth soul ring and reached the Soul Ancestor rank, he had matured further and appeared to be around fifteen or sixteen years old 132. The most dramatic change came after seven years of secluded cultivation on the Douluo Planet, where he emerged as a tall, well-built young man with an exceptionally handsome face 151 152 153 154. During this period, the World Consciousness (Xing Yi) deliberately perfected his features by erasing every insignificant flaw while preserving his unique character, transforming him from merely good-looking into something far more striking and pleasing to the eye 151. His overall physique became that of a mature young adult, with a commanding presence that reflected his increased power and composure 152 153 154.

  • Height and build: After the first spirit ring absorption, Gu An’s stature increased from a six-year-old’s to that of an eight- or nine-year-old, then later to a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old appearance, and finally to a tall, well-built young man following his seven-year cultivation 7 132 151 152 153 154.
  • Facial features: The World Consciousness refined his face with subtle adjustments, removing all minor imperfections and enhancing his naturally handsome features while retaining his unique identity, resulting in a markedly more attractive appearance 151.
  • Third eye: After his seven-year cultivation, Gu An manifested a vertical eye on his forehead, which is the External Soul Bone known as the Star Mark Eye 153.
  • Ice Skin Jade Bone: The Snow Empress also granted him the External Soul Bone Ice Skin Jade Bone, which strengthens his skin and provides formidable passive defense even against opponents a major rank above him 73.
  • Overall composure: Beyond physical stature, his mature bearing and confident demeanor visibly marked his transition from a gifted child to a powerful young man 151 152 153 154.

Abilities

Fallen Angel Martial Soul

Gu An’s first-ranked martial soul is a mutated Fallen Angel, chosen during his awakening as the top-ranked among the available options 2. The exact capabilities of this martial soul are not elaborated upon in the provided material, but its top ranking indicates extraordinary potential and power.

  • Applications: Unknown from the available context. The martial soul’s high rank suggests it grants significant combat strength, but no specific applications are described.
  • Limitations: Unknown from the available context. No restrictions or weaknesses are mentioned.

Dragon Phoenix Soul Sound Flute

The second-ranked martial soul is a flute described as translucent white with golden patterns and phantoms of dragons and phoenixes 2. It is classified as an All‑Round System martial soul 14. Its most notable feature is the ability to forcibly contract soul beasts as “backup dancers,” functioning as soul spirits that fight alongside Gu An 3. Unlike traditional soul spirits, those contracted through this flute have no mental power restrictions, and the age limit for absorbing other soul beasts increases as Gu An’s level rises 3. He can potentially bind up to nine soul spirits, one for each soul ring 3. Examples of contracted soul spirits include the thirty‑thousand‑year Green Blade Falcon 35, the Ice Empress, Snow Empress, Lava Dragon Maiden, and Frost Feather Silver Phoenix 160.

  • Applications:
    • Versatile combat style combining musical support and direct offense.
    • Ability to summon multiple powerful soul spirits to fight alongside or protect the user (e.g., the Green Blade Falcon blocked a powerful attack and a soul‑cannon shot) 15 35.
    • No mental power cap on contracted soul spirits, allowing a larger number than normal soul masters 3.
    • The flute’s soul skills can be used for buffing allies, debuffing enemies, and dealing area damage.
  • Limitations:
    • Not explicitly described. The number of soul spirits that can be contracted is theoretically nine, but reaching that maximum requires obtaining corresponding soul rings.
    • The user must actively contract soul beasts, which may involve combat or persuasion.

Summon Bodyguard

This ability allows Gu An to summon loyal, powerful bodyguards from Douluo Planet. The first such bodyguard is Leng Yaozhu, a four‑word battle armor master and Limit Douluo who retains all her memories and strength but lacks emotional attachments, ensuring absolute loyalty 2 3. To summon additional bodyguards of similar caliber, Gu An must obtain the World Origin, either by devouring a world or seizing its destiny 3. Gu An later obtained sufficient World Origin after suppressing Huo Yuhao and weakening his forces, allowing him to summon further powerful figures, including the level-100 true-god Demon Empress 39 52.

  • Applications:
    • Provides an extremely powerful, loyal ally from the outset (Leng Yaozhu) capable of protecting Gu An and his mother, healing allies, and intimidating enemies 2 16 35.
    • Enables the summoning of exceptional combatants and specialists from the Legend of the Dragon King world, including the Demon Empress, Saint Craftsman Feng Wuyu, and powerful Far North figures 52 78.
    • Potential to build an army of high‑level bodyguards by acquiring more World Origin.
    • Bodyguards are fully aware and retain their combat experience, making them effective in battle.
  • Limitations:
    • Acquiring additional World Origin is a difficult and dangerous process, and only one bodyguard per World Origin is implied.
    • Further summons require Gu An to actively gather world‑level sources.

Soul Skills

Gu An develops a wide array of soul skills as he grows, each tied to his Dragon Phoenix Soul Sound Flute and his soul rings. His first soul ring is a ten‑thousand‑year ring, granting a skill initially perceived as support‑type — “Whispering Melody” — which enhances a target’s strength, speed, and soul power, but can be transformed into an offensive barrage of Wind Blades 16 33. His absorption of the Snow Empress's soul ring later granted him the domain-type skill Domain of Frozen Heaven and the control skill Ice Silence Space-Time 73. Other recorded soul skills include:

  • Dragon‑Phoenix Phantom (used to display power in combat) 32.
  • Domain of Frozen Heaven (an Ultimate Snow domain that strengthens allies while suppressing enemies) 73.
  • Ice Silence Space-Time (freezes enemies within his domain for up to a minute while allowing Gu An to move freely) 73.
  • Nirvana Dragon Roar (a powerful sound attack used against Evil Soul Masters and the Evil Emperor) 155 158.
  • Eternal Freeze Touch (freezing ability from a fourth soul ring, used to counter Space‑Time Light) 132 158.
  • Dragon Phoenix Guardian (a defensive skill) 158.
  • Sigh of Ice and Snow (freezing ability applied to the Evil Emperor’s attack) 158.
  • Dragon Phoenix Annihilation Melody (his ninth soul skill, a devastating area attack used to defeat Zhongli Wu and the Evil Emperor) 160.

These skills demonstrate a mix of support, control, defense, and direct damage, with many leveraging sound, musical themes, Ultimate Ice, and his soul spirits.

  • Applications:
    • Whispering Melody can deceive opponents into thinking it is purely supportive, then turn into a lethal trap (e.g., surrounding Wu Feng with Wind Blades) 16 33.
    • Domain of Frozen Heaven enhances allied attributes and weakens enemies, while Ice Silence Space-Time gives Gu An overwhelming battlefield control against groups 73 98.
    • Dragon Phoenix Guardian provides defense; Eternal Freeze Touch and Sigh of Ice and Snow grant powerful freezing control 158.
    • Nirvana Dragon Roar and Dragon Phoenix Annihilation Melody offer high‑area damage, capable of defeating multiple strong foes at once 155 160.
    • Skills can be combined with the Soul Spirit ability for tactical advantages (e.g., the Green Blade Falcon protecting Gu An while he attacks) 35.
  • Limitations:
    • Specific cooldowns, range, or energy costs are not detailed in the available material.
    • The ten‑thousand‑year first soul ring caused shock and disbelief among observers, indicating such a high‑quality ring at a low level is extremely rare and may draw unwanted attention 32 33.
    • Some skills may require precise control of musical notes (e.g., turning support into offense), which demands mental focus 16.

Spiritual Power and Soul Cores

Following seven years of cultivation on Douluo Planet, Gu An's spiritual power reached the Spirit Domain Realm. He also formed two stable Yin-Yang Complementary Soul Cores, granting him an extraordinary foundation for combat and future godhood 155. Yun Ming personally drilled his combat experience during this period, contributing to Gu An's ability to confront opponents vastly stronger than his apparent age would suggest 155.

  • Applications:
    • Spirit Domain Realm spiritual power allows him to withstand and contend with high-level mental and spiritual pressure 155 158.
    • The Yin-Yang Complementary Soul Cores provide a stable and powerful foundation for sustained combat and cultivation 155.
    • His refined combat experience enables him to fight a level-98 opponent and an 800,000-year Fierce Beast successfully 161.
  • Limitations:
    • The Yin-Yang Complementary Soul Cores are only the beginning of his intended Creation God path rather than its completed form 155.
    • His ascent depends upon the continued use of two Douluo worlds and the accumulation of sufficient World Origin 3 155.

Plot Overview

Gu An's overarching ambition from the outset was to use the Spirit Transmission Academy as a stepping stone to challenge Shrek Academy's ten-thousand-year dominance and harvest the world's origin by suppressing the children of destiny. Learning that Shrek's freshman assessment was imminent, he decided to intervene, intending not only to rescue his "sister" Xiao Xiao from what he saw as Shrek's cult-like brainwashing but also to publicly humiliate the academy and eventually establish his own faction as the true orthodox Shrek 17. Accompanied by the Limit Douluo Leng Yaozhu, Gu An arrived at Shrek Academy and immediately confronted the faculty, demanding compensation for the injuries Zhou Yi had inflicted on Xiao Xiao during her enrollment trials. When Yan Shaozhe and the Sea God Pavilion Elders, including Mu En and Xuanzi, attempted to assert their authority, Leng Yaozhu unleashed her power, revealing six ten-thousand-year and three hundred-thousand-year soul rings that suppressed the Shrek Titled Douluo 25 26. Gu An's group withdrew after Shrek agreed to pay compensation, leaving the academy seething with humiliation 27 39.

The conflict escalated further when Gu An challenged Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong to a spirit duel after they had recovered their spirit power. Mu En, eager to provoke Gu An into revealing his abilities, agreed to the match. Gu An, revealing his true age of six and his status as a one-ring all-rounder Spirit Master, utterly dominated the duo, crushing Huo Yuhao's spirit both physically and psychologically 29 30 34. After this defeat, Gu An and Leng Yaozhu finally revealed the full extent of the Spirit Transmission Academy's power, unleashing five Titled Douluo-level Soul Spirits against Shrek's defenders. Xuanzi was severely injured in the confrontation, and the academy was forced to rely on the manifestation of the ancestor Tang San to scare the intruders away 36 39. In the aftermath, the Seven Treasure Glazed Sect's defection to the Spirit Transmission Academy was exposed, and Xuanzi, in his rage, called for the annihilation of Xiao Xiao's family, whom he now viewed as traitors 45.

Months later, Shrek Academy arrived at the Spirit Transmission Academy for a "friendly exchange" led by Yan Shaozhe and Shrek's Seven Devils, their true intention being to settle scores and restore their wounded pride. The event drew a massive crowd from Seven Treasures City. The exchange turned into a total rout for Shrek; their Seven Devils were decisively defeated, and Yan Shaozhe, Xian Lin'er, and Cai Mei'er—along with many other teachers and students—were taken captive by the Spirit Transmission Academy 89 115 116. The Spirit Transmission Academy then spread a devastating rumor across the continent, accusing Shrek Academy of being the "base camp for Evil Soul Masters," a scheme designed to stigmatize the academy and destroy its ten-thousand-year-old reputation as the foremost righteous sect 116. When the news reached Shrek, the Sea God Pavilion Elders were consumed with fury and helplessness. Mu En, exercising restraint, dispatched Zhuang Yusen and Song Yunzhi to negotiate, ordering them to maintain a humble posture and prioritize the safe return of their people, as he recognized Shrek had no chance of winning a full-scale war 116.

  • Far North Campaign and Expansion: Gu An traveled to the Far North to subdue powerful soul beasts and secure further resources. Backed by the true-god Demon Empress, he forced the Ice Empress and Snow Empress into his orbit, absorbed the Snow Empress's soul ring, and obtained the Ice Skin Jade Bone External Soul Bone along with Domain of Frozen Heaven and Ice Silence Space-Time 52 72 73. After returning, he used World Origin to summon powerful figures from the Legend of the Dragon King world, including Saint Craftsman Feng Wuyu and Far North powerhouses, substantially expanding his faction 78.
  • Tang Qi and the Children of Destiny: Gu An identified Tang Qi as another half of Tang Wutong's soul and interpreted her arrival at the Spirit Transmission Academy as Tang San's attempt to place another “dog leash” upon him 44. Rather than expel her, Gu An kept her close and later defeated her with ease after displaying two hundred-thousand-year soul rings 81. He similarly targeted the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, believing that the Asura God had already arranged her fate, and sought to alter that destiny through Xing Yi's assistance 82 153.
  • Negotiations and the Brainwashing Scheme: The negotiations were tense. Dean Leng Yaozhu used the safety of Shrek's students and the threat of the Evil Soul Master accusations as leverage, demanding a public apology and compensation. The situation grew more humiliating when Leng revealed that Cai Mei'er and Ling Luochen might have betrayed Shrek and might not wish to leave even if released 129. Despite these losses, Mu En unexpectedly reframed the disaster as an opportunity. He proposed that when Gu An came to Shrek Academy to retrieve his fellow students, the academy would welcome him into the Golden Ancient Tree, the sacred foundation left by Tang San. Within that space, Mu En believed they could trigger the ancestor's residual power to wipe away Gu An's memories and antagonism, effectively brainwashing him into a loyal Shrek disciple. The Elders, desperate and humiliated, seized on this plan with renewed hope, seeing Gu An as a potential acquisition that would more than compensate for the loss of Ling Luochen and secure Shrek's future 135.

As the date of Gu An's visit approached, the city of Shrek was adorned with banners and flags from the city gate to the inner city, generating widespread public excitement. For the common people, the event was a spectacle; for Huo Yuhao, it was a personal torment. He wandered the streets, overhearing citizens mock Shrek's reputation and praise Gu An, a name he could not escape. The very mention of Gu An arriving to "inspect" the academy filled Huo Yuhao with impotent rage, forcing him to watch helplessly as his enemy entered the gates of his beloved Shrek Academy 162.

Gu An recognized Shrek's Golden Ancient Tree scheme and chose to exploit it instead of avoiding it. He publicly accepted the designation of Shrek Academy student, easily subdued Dai Yueheng when challenged, and entered the Golden Ancient Tree under a façade of cooperation 166. Inside, he confronted Ah Yin, Tang San's mother, attacked her with Black Ah Yin, and attempted to fuse with the tree's World Origin. Thus, Shrek's intended brainwashing trap became Gu An's opportunity to seize one of Tang San's most important remaining foundations 166.

Relationships

Mother Gu

Gu An shares a deep, protective bond with his mother. After she sustained severe internal injuries from Xuanzi’s attack, Gu An forcibly fed her an immortal herb, healing her hidden wounds and marking a turning point in her recovery 9. Mother Gu is loving yet anxious, often worrying about her son’s safety and feeling guilty for her own weakness, but she ultimately supports his decisions, including the foundation of the Spirit Transmission Academy 9 18. Gu An, in turn, is fiercely devoted to her, vowing to protect her at all costs. Their relationship is one of mutual reliance: she provides emotional grounding, while he shoulders the burdens of strength and revenge 9 153. Even as Gu An grows into a powerful Soul Ancestor, Mother Gu remains his moral anchor, though she is sometimes left out of the most dangerous ventures for her own protection 18.

After Gu An returned from seven years of seclusion with a mature body and the Star Mark Eye, Mother Gu accepted his drastic transformation without hesitation. She was overjoyed by his return and proudly believed that he possessed the potential to become a god 153.

Leng Yaozhu

Leng Yaozhu is the first woman Gu An summoned from Douluo Planet, initially stripped of past emotional attachments but quickly developing a fierce loyalty and deepening affection for him 2. She acts as his bodyguard, protector, and confidante, often carrying him in her arms and displaying possessive jealousy when other women show interest in him 44 132. Over time, their relationship evolves into a passionate romance: after seven years of Gu An’s cultivation, they reunite in a secret chamber, where their encounter marks the culmination of long-suppressed desire 152. Leng Yaozhu is strong-willed and dominant, yet vulnerable around Gu An, and she prioritizes his safety above all else, even as she coaxes him with playful threats and intimate gestures 132 152. Her loyalty is absolute, and she often mediates between Gu An and other powers, such as when she severely injures Xuanzi to defend him 28.

Demon Empress

The Demon Empress—a level-100 true god—shares a complex, transactional relationship with Gu An, rooted in mutual benefit and a twisted form of affection. She frequently displays possessive physical affection, rubbing her cheek against his and calling him “Xiao An,” yet her primary motivation is revenge against Tang San 53 133. When her counterpart from another world appears, the Demon Empress ruthlessly beats her and persuades her to sacrifice herself to enhance Gu An’s power, ignoring the pleas of her own daughter, Little Lan Fozi 133 134. Gu An initially watches passively but later accepts the sacrifice, understanding its strategic value 134. The Demon Empress’s eagerness to see Gu An grow stronger borders on obsession, as she constantly pushes him to stabilize his soul power for the ritual 136. Despite her coldness toward her own family, she shows a begrudging care for Gu An, viewing him as the instrument through which she can achieve her vengeance.

Her status as a level-100 true god without a divine throne made her Gu An's decisive safeguard during the Far North campaign, allowing him to confront the Ice Empress and Snow Empress from a position of overwhelming strength 52.

Xing Yi

Xing Yi is the consciousness of the Legend of the Dragon King Douluo Planet that recognized Gu An at his martial-soul awakening and became the source of his cross-world authority 1 2. Initially fragmented and unable to communicate coherently, she became increasingly complete and human-like during Gu An's seven years of cultivation within Douluo Planet 151. She assists his long-term plans, praises his combat accomplishments, and supports efforts to change the Three-Eyed Golden Lion's predetermined fate 153 161.

Their relationship grows increasingly intimate and playful after Xing Yi's development. She openly teases Gu An and shows physical affection, while Gu An treats her with familiarity and irreverence despite her status as a world consciousness 151 152. Strategically, she remains one of his most essential allies because his ability to gather World Origin and walk the Creation God path is inseparable from her world 3 155.

Tang Qi

Gu An regards Tang Qi as a tool sent by Tang San: another half of Tang Wutong's soul intended to bind him to the God King’s designs 44. Although Leng Yaozhu suggested expelling her as a potential danger, Gu An chose to keep Tang Qi at the Spirit Transmission Academy, intending instead to turn Tang San's own daughter and subordinate her to his plans 44 80.

Tang Qi initially confronted him arrogantly and attacked with her Clear Sky Hammer, but Gu An effortlessly defeated her after revealing his two hundred-thousand-year soul rings 81. Over time, she became increasingly disillusioned with Tang San, acknowledging that the divine sense placed in her body had not shown concern for her safety 138. Gu An monitors that divine sense and instructs her to report any abnormality, maintaining a relationship defined by manipulation, containment, and mutual hostility toward Tang San 138.

Wang Dong

Gu An's relationship with Wang Dong began as open hostility through her alliance with Huo Yuhao. During his first clash with Shrek, he defeated her alongside Huo Yuhao and left her severely injured, treating both as extensions of Tang San's influence 32 38. He later recognized that Tang San was prepared to use Wang Dong, like Tang Qi, as another means to bind him to Shrek and the God Realm 164.

After Wang Dong's turning, Gu An brought her into Douluo Planet, where she met Tang Qi for the first time. As the two separated halves of Tang Wutong's soul confronted one another, Gu An chose not to interfere, prioritizing his greater plans outside 165.

Huo Yuhao

Gu An regards Huo Yuhao with outright hostility, treating him as a pawn of the Asura God (Tang San) and an obstacle to his plans. When Huo Yuhao accuses Gu An’s sister, Xiao Xiao, of failing in battle, Gu An retaliates by influencing Leng Yaozhu to interfere during a fight, causing Huo Yuhao and his teammate Wang Dong to lose badly 23. Later, Gu An demands heavy compensation from Shrek Academy for Xiao Xiao’s injuries, and he decides to vent his frustration directly on Huo Yuhao and Wang Dong 28. Gu An sees Huo Yuhao’s quest for power as naive and contrasts it with his own ruthless pragmatism. The relationship is purely antagonistic, with Gu An consistently undermining Huo Yuhao’s progress and using him as a means to provoke the Asura God 83. There is no respect or alliance between them; Gu An views Huo Yuhao as a tool to be broken or manipulated for his greater goals.

Gu An's continued growth and return to Shrek Academy leave Huo Yuhao in a state of fear and humiliation. As Gu An prepared to enter the Golden Ancient Tree, Huo Yuhao could only watch the public celebrate his enemy while Shrek's reputation continued to collapse 162.
