Background / History

Chuan Yu transmigrated into the ninja world two years before the story's opening. He was born to Uchiha Kagami and Hyūga Natsu, making him a hybrid of two prominent clans. The Hyūga rejected both the relationship and Chuan Yu himself, treating his existence as a stain on the clan; Kagami never publicly faced the matter under the pressure of the Hyūga's influence. 1

At six, he was cast out by the Hyūga and taken in by Itachi after Shisui's death. Shisui, Chuan Yu's half-brother, left his Mangekyō Sharingan to him following his failed attempt to prevent the Uchiha coup. 1 Fugaku subsequently adopted Chuan Yu into the Uchiha Clan, while Mikoto welcomed him as family and Sasuke became his younger brother. 2

Determined to avert the planned destruction of the Uchiha, Chuan Yu prioritized training over the academy and quietly built his strength. He arranged for Ao to return to Konoha with Mist forces after one year, intending to use outside pressure in the looming conflict. 6 8

After provoking a confrontation involving Cloud shinobi and Killer Bee, Chuan Yu recognized that his recklessness could have started a war. He accepted Orochimaru's proposal to investigate Ryūchi Cave in exchange for help resolving the incident, though he understood Orochimaru intended to use him. 11 12

During the journey, he rescued Karin from exploitation in the Land of Grass and took responsibility for her safety. Together they reached Ryūchi Cave, where Chuan Yu trained for a year, attained Sage Mode's second stage, and formed a senjutsu-linked emotional connection with Ichikishimahime. 15 20 22

Upon returning to Konoha, he gained the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, confronted Danzō, and shattered the Clan Annihilation Plan. He later became Root's captain as the Uchiha clan's representative and helped end the conflict with the Sand and Rock Villages. 23 24 27 31

Following further political unrest and his departure from Konoha, Chuan Yu fulfilled his promise to Ao by traveling to the Mist. There, Konan recruited him into Akatsuki; he joined alongside Karin and reunited with Itachi. 36 37 38

Appearance

Chuan Yu is a youthful shinobi with a resemblance to Shisui Uchiha. After a year in Ryūchi Cave, he became taller and more mature in build, with a clear complexion, handsome features, and longer hair. 2 22

Personality

Chuan Yu is pragmatic, guarded, and intensely focused on strength. His early rejection by the Hyūga left him distrustful of sentimentality, and he initially views most of the ninja world through the harsh logic of survival. 1 12

Despite this, he is deeply protective of the family who accepted him. He trains to prevent the Uchiha massacre, worries about Sasuke's future, and asks Kakashi to become Sasuke's teacher. 2 27 He also protects Karin despite initially dismissing pity as pointless, refusing to exploit her healing ability even when suffering from Mangekyō backlash. 15 17

He is analytical in both battle and politics. He recognizes that a violent Uchiha takeover would only repeat the clan's tragedy, and later challenges Akatsuki's strategy of fully extracting Tailed Beasts from jinchūriki. 32 45
