Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was the biological son of Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect Master Yu Yuanzhen 2 27. His mutated Luo Sanpao martial soul made him a laughingstock within the sect, leaving him resentful despite his status as a direct descendant 2 27.

After discovering that the orphan Yu Nan—later known as Ronan—had awakened the same martial soul, Yu Xiaogang approached him with martial soul research notes and proposed that they investigate Luo Sanpao together 2. According to Ronan's recollection, Yu Xiaogang intended to use Yu Nan as a test subject for his theories rather than sincerely help him 2.

Yu Nan rejected him and openly challenged the usefulness of his theories 3. Humiliated, Yu Xiaogang reported him to Yu Yuanzhen with distorted accusations, resulting in Yu Nan's expulsion from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect 3.

Years later, Yu Xiaogang learned that Ronan's Luo Sanpao had evolved into the Golden Sacred Dragon 22. Unable to evolve his own martial soul or progress beyond level 29, he became obsessed with obtaining Ronan's method for martial soul evolution 22 48.

He is also vindictive and manipulative 3. After Yu Nan rejected him, Yu Xiaogang appealed to his father with accusations that led to Yu Nan's expulsion 3. Later, he tried to pressure Ronan into surrendering the secret of martial soul evolution by offering reinstatement to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect 22.

His arrogance exceeds his actual power 21. At Moon Pavilion, he attempted to intimidate stronger guards by invoking the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect despite being only level 29 21.

Conflict with Yu Nan

Yu Xiaogang's failed attempt to make Yu Nan follow his research establishes their long-running hostility 3 22. His report to Yu Yuanzhen helps drive Yu Nan out of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect, indirectly setting Ronan on the path that leads to the Golden Sacred Dragon's evolution 3 22.

Moon Pavilion Confrontation

Yu Xiaogang went to Moon Pavilion demanding to see Ronan and tried to use the Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect's name to intimidate its guards 21 22. He then offered Ronan a return to the sect and restoration of his surname in exchange for the secret of martial soul evolution 22.

Ronan rejected the offer, mocked Yu Xiaogang's theories, and struck him with a single slap that sent him flying into a fruit stall and left him unconscious 22.

Retaliation by His Family and Bibi Dong

Yu Xiaolie arrived shortly after the confrontation to retaliate for Yu Xiaogang's injuries, but Ronan defeated and humiliated him as well 23 24. Their father, Yu Yuanzhen, later confronted Ronan and was killed 24 28 29.

Bibi Dong subsequently sought revenge against Ronan for injuring Yu Xiaogang and insulting his martial soul research 46 47. Ronan used the evolved Golden Sacred Dragon as proof that Yu Xiaogang's theories had failed to solve the very problem they claimed to address 48.
