Background / History
Tang Xiao is the current Sect Master of the Clear Sky Sect, the elder brother of Tang Yuehua and Tang Hao, and the son of the late former Sect Master. After Tang Hao severely wounds Spirit Hall Pontiff Qian Xunji and becomes involved with a hundred-thousand-year soul beast, Spirit Hall's retaliation forces the Clear Sky Sect to seal its gates and retreat into seclusion. Their father dies after being enraged by the crisis, leaving Tang Xiao to take responsibility for the sect's survival 1.
In response to the danger surrounding Tang Yuehua, Tang Xiao arranges her rushed marriage to Ronan as a political transaction. He believes that Ronan, a twenty-four-year-old level 79 quasi-Soul Douluo with the Golden Sacred Dragon martial soul, can protect Yuehua from Spirit Hall and other forces while Tang Xiao returns to manage the sect's retreat. In return, Ronan receives Tang Xiao's promised assistance in hunting a powerful eighth soul ring 1 3 4.
Although burdened by sect and family responsibilities, Tang Xiao is regarded by Ronan as someone who honors his reputation and promises. Ronan considers him trustworthy enough to rely on for a dangerous hundred-thousand-year soul beast hunt, despite viewing him as somewhat indecisive under the pressures of leadership 4.
Tang Xiao later visits Ronan and learns that his target is a hundred-thousand-year Earth-Armored Giant Dragon. He is initially shocked by the plan and warns that even a rank 96 Titled Douluo could be injured fighting such a beast, but after assessing Ronan’s abnormal physical strength, growth history, and soul ring configuration, he chooses to support the gamble 11.
In the Star Dou Forest, Tang Xiao takes the lead against the Earth-Armored Giant Dragon while Ronan provides support and searches for openings. The two defeat the beast, allowing Ronan to absorb its hundred-thousand-year spirit ring and right arm bone 12 13.
After the hunt, Tang Xiao is unable to meet Tang Yuehua because of sect affairs, but he warns Ronan to take care of her before returning to his responsibilities 14.
Later, the Clear Sky Sect’s conflict with Moonlight Pavilion escalates after Tang Hu fails to extort one million Gold Soul Coins from Tang Yuehua and is crippled by Ronan. Tang Xiao convenes with the Elders’ Council after Tang Hu returns humiliated. Although Ronan suspects Tang Xiao deliberately concealed his true strength in order to use Tang Hu and the other envoys as expendable political opponents, Tang Xiao later reveals internally that he had expected only a limited confrontation followed by negotiations for Moonlight Pavilion’s funds; Ronan and Tang Yuehua’s decisive refusal leaves the situation beyond his control 93 95 96.
Tang Xiao is conflicted when the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect approaches the Clear Sky Sect with a proposal to unite the Upper Three Sects against Ronan. He knows that Ronan is his brother-in-law because he personally arranged Ronan and Tang Yuehua’s marriage, and he recognizes that Tang Hu provoked the conflict at Moonlight Pavilion. However, fearing that the sect’s worsening poverty will ruin its younger generation and facing pressure from the Elders’ Council, he conditionally agrees to cooperate 127 128.
As his condition for the alliance, Tang Xiao demands that Ning Fengzhi locate and bring Tang Hao back to the Clear Sky Sect. He argues that Tang Hao’s return is necessary to secure enough top-tier combat power to face Ronan, even though the elders resent Tang Hao for the calamity that led to the sect’s seclusion and their father’s death 127 128.
Appearance
Tang Xiao is not given a full physical description in the provided context.
- Has a resolute, weathered face 11.
- Wears a loose black cloak when traveling covertly 11.
- Associated with a powerful, oppressive presence when releasing his soul power 12.
- Wields the Clear Sky Hammer, which manifests as a massive pitch-black hammer during battle 12.
Personality
Tang Xiao is protective toward Tang Yuehua and the Clear Sky Sect, but his decisions are shaped by political pressure and survival. His arrangement of Tang Yuehua’s marriage is harsh and transactional, yet framed as a move to keep her from becoming a bargaining chip and to shield her from Spirit Hall’s wrath 1.
He is cautious but not cowardly. When Ronan proposes hunting a hundred-thousand-year soul beast, Tang Xiao is visibly shocked and questions whether Ronan can withstand the ring’s backlash, but he is willing to take the risk after judging Ronan’s confidence and abnormal physique 11.
Ronan views Tang Xiao as somewhat indecisive under the weight of sect and family obligations, but still dependable when it comes to promises and reputation 4.
Tang Xiao is also politically pragmatic and capable of concealing his intentions. His attempt to obtain Moonlight Pavilion’s wealth through Tang Hu’s mission indicates that, despite his concern for Yuehua, he is prepared to exploit her resources for the sect’s survival 93 96.
His later acceptance of an alliance against Ronan exposes the depth of his internal conflict. He feels guilt at failing Tang Yuehua, but ultimately prioritizes the Clear Sky Sect’s financial crisis and future over his familial obligations 127 128.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Hundred-Thousand-Year Spirit Beast Hunt
Tang Xiao accompanies Ronan to the Star Dou Forest to hunt the Earth-Armored Giant Dragon. He serves as the direct attacker, using the Clear Sky Hammer and Martial Soul Avatar while Ronan provides support. Their cooperation results in Ronan obtaining a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring and spirit bone 11 12 13.
Clear Sky Sect Conflict
After Tang Hu demands one million Gold Soul Coins from Moonlight Pavilion and is later crippled by Ronan, Tang Xiao faces a sect crisis. The Clear Sky Sect is humiliated, but Ronan’s strength causes the Elders’ Council to hesitate instead of immediately retaliating 91 95 96.
Tang Xiao had hoped Tang Hu’s mission would lead to negotiations and financial support for the impoverished sect. Instead, Tang Yuehua and Ronan’s refusal intensifies the fracture between Tang Xiao’s duty to the Clear Sky Sect and his responsibility toward his sister 93 96 97.
Upper Three Sects Alliance
Ning Fengzhi later offers to fund the Clear Sky Sect’s living expenses and cultivation resources if it joins the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and Blue Lightning Tyrant Sect in eliminating Ronan. Tang Xiao recognizes that the proposal is built on a distorted account of the Moonlight Pavilion conflict and is deeply troubled by the prospect of acting against his own brother-in-law 126 127.
Nevertheless, Tang Xiao conditionally accepts because of the Clear Sky Sect’s financial desperation. He requires Ning Fengzhi to bring Tang Hao back, believing Tang Hao’s presence is necessary to ensure victory against Ronan and to restore the sect’s highest-level combat strength 127 128.
