Ye Ci was the previous-generation inheritor of the Nine-Heart Begonia, a healing Martial Soul renowned for its extraordinary restorative power. Around eight or nine years before her arrival at Moonlight Pavilion, she found Ronan dying after his battle with a powerful spirit beast. Her Nine-Heart Begonia healed his catastrophic injuries completely, saving his life and earning his lasting gratitude. 52

Roughly a decade before revealing her condition to Ronan, Ye Ci saved another severely injured Soul Master. The man later betrayed her while she was weakened, ambushing her to covet her Martial Soul and possessions. The attack damaged the origin of her Nine-Heart Begonia, permanently halting her cultivation and steadily draining her vitality. 67

With her health failing and Ye Lingling's parents missing, Ye Ci brought her granddaughter to Moonlight Pavilion and asked Ronan and Tang Yuehua to care for her. Ronan accepted out of gratitude for Ye Ci's past rescue, then persuaded her to remain at the pavilion rather than live alone. 52 53
