Background / History

Yuxian was attending an offline gathering when he awoke in an unfamiliar situation with Mash at his bedside. Initially believing Mash to be an unusually convincing cosplay participant, he impulsively pinched her cheek before learning that his life had changed entirely. 1

He became Chaldea's only Master and began traveling between worlds to locate missing Heroic Spirits. His first documented Spirit Transfer brought him and Mash to Fuyuki City in the 1990s, where he reunited with Emiya, contracted him again, and began searching for Chaldea's scattered allies. 2 3

Much later, Merlin reveals that Yuxian is a past version of Chaldea's last Master—a person already dead in the original timeline. Following his death, the Human Order was destroyed and Chaldea could no longer return to its original state. Merlin entrusts Yuxian with finding every member of Chaldea and saving humanity. 364

Yuxian is a young man who gives strangers an unremarkable, ordinary impression. Despite the passage of a decade, Waver notes that Yuxian's face appears unchanged. 90 127

Personality

Yuxian is easygoing, playful, and strongly attached to a leisurely life. He frequently tries to avoid training or work, enjoys good food, and is easily exhausted by mundane tasks such as shopping or delivery work. 30 38 99 His humor can be deliberately provocative, most notably in his habit of calling Emiya “Old Woman.” 2

Despite this laziness, he takes his responsibility as a Master seriously. He does not view Servants as tools, respects their personal choices, and refuses to demand that they abandon the lives or bonds they have formed in other worlds. 14 34 60 He is also uncomfortable concealing information from those who trust him, even when he cannot safely explain the truth. 52

Children are Yuxian's greatest priority. He teaches them, feeds them, takes them to school and on outings, disciplines them when they act dangerously, and reacts fiercely to anyone who exploits or harms them. 3 35 82 258 259 His protectiveness can become uncompromising, particularly when children are treated as weapons or denied the chance to live ordinary lives. 21 79 82

Yuxian believes every member of Chaldea matters equally and rejects the idea that he alone is more important than the others. This compassion earns others' trust, but Roman recognizes that it may prevent Yuxian from making the coldest, most rational choice in a crisis. 249 250
