Background / History

Madara cared deeply for his cousin, Uchiha Yang, believing Yang's apparent decadence stemmed from losing his parents and being unable to become a ninja. He encouraged Yang to pursue strength as either a ninja or samurai and collected materials for a weapon on his behalf. 1

During the Uzumaki Clan's nighttime assault on the Uchiha compound, Madara gathered the six available chūnin and led them against the attackers. He ordered Izuna to remain close, held back the raid's main force, and fought through powerful sealing attacks at significant personal cost. 2 5

After Uchiha Tajima and Senju Butsuma died in battle, Madara inherited the Uchiha Clan leadership. Though he had not sought the position, he accepted the inherited gunbai and the responsibility placed upon him by the clan. His Mangekyō Sharingan manifested during this succession. 8

As clan head, Madara prioritized recuperation because the Uchiha could not sustain another extended war. He nevertheless pursued retaliation against the Uzumaki through Yang's strategy, assigning Izuna and ten elite jōnin to execute the operation while he remained behind to secure the clan. 8 11

Appearance

Madara is an Uchiha shinobi whose eyes progress from the Three-Tomoe Sharingan to the Mangekyō Sharingan. In battle, he wields the Uchiwa Fan and manifests a blue Susanoo. 5 8 30

  • Bears battle wounds and scorched injuries after confronting Uzumaki sealing techniques. 5
  • Uses the inherited Uchiwa Fan as the symbol of the Uchiha Clan Head. 8 50
  • His Mangekyō Sharingan exerts a suppressive pressure on ordinary Three-Tomoe Sharingan users. 33
  • His Susanoo is blue and armed with chakra blades. 30 31

Personality

Madara is protective of his family and clan. He repeatedly worries about Yang's safety and potential, supports Izuna closely, and treats an attack on Yang as an unforgivable act; after Senju Tobirama attacks Yang, Madara declares that Tobirama will remain his enemy. 1 37

He bears the weight of leadership seriously, centralizing authority to keep the clan united and arranging its recovery after taking office. He is also pragmatic enough to trust Yang's strategies, bend established meeting rules for Yang's participation, and gradually transfer authority to him. 8 10 44 48

Madara remains emotionally invested in Senju Hashirama despite their clan conflict. References to Hashirama provoke strong reactions, while Hashirama's letters and their reunion visibly excite him. Yet Madara ultimately rejects Hashirama's peace-oriented village vision in favor of the “Order World” advocated by Yang. 6 18 30 48
