The two had been perfectly fine just a moment ago, but now they were arguing again after only a few words.
Seeing this, Bulma, Trunks, Son Gohan, and Son Goten all put their hands to their foreheads, utterly speechless.
They also felt deeply exasperated.
Still, they were sure their earlier worries had been unnecessary.
At that moment, a hint of helplessness flashed in Tarble and Licks's eyes, too.
Those two often argued while training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
Once they got carried away, they would fight.
Afterward, they would go right back to arguing, then fight again when they got worked up. They went back and forth, never tiring of it.
At that moment, a glint flashed in Mage Hoi's eyes as he quietly began to scheme.
It seemed those two didn't get along...
Maybe he could take advantage of that later...
No!
Seeing this, the others hadn't seemed surprised at all?
That meant this sort of thing happened often!
Well, best not to take that risk after all.
Once he'd successfully rescued his precious treasure, not a single person here would survive!
As he thought this, another trace of murderous intent flashed in his eyes, then vanished.
He thought he'd hidden it well, but this time Tarble noticed.
Tarble's gaze passed over him casually, and he sneered inwardly.
Hmph!
You've finally shown your true colors!
You dare show murderous intent?
Good. You've earned your death!
He couldn't remember whether the old man had died in the story, or how.
He only vaguely recalled that the old man had slipped away while Trunks and the others were making their wish.
As for whether he'd actually died, Tarble didn't remember.
But it no longer mattered.
He'd already decided to keep an eye on the old man and give him no chance to escape.
Meanwhile,
Vegeta and Son Goku had reached an agreement.
Vegeta gave a cold snort. "Hmph!"
"Kakarot, the strongest always make a grand entrance."
"Since you want to go first, then go ahead!"
He'd come up with this on the spur of the moment.
Bulma's unintentional question just now had reminded him of something—
Had Bulma told that old geezer about his general situation and personality?
If she had, wouldn't that mean they'd been putting on their act for nothing?
That wouldn't do!
He'd been worried that Son Goku wouldn't understand what he was getting at.
Now it seemed they were working together quite well.
He was very reluctant to play along with Son Goku, but they had no choice at the moment.
Still, even if their act was fake, their competition to go first was real.
The reason he'd backed down in the end was, of course, that he'd told Bulma earlier, "The strongest always make a grand entrance."
Otherwise, he'd never have let Son Goku go first and put on an act.
Seeing him back down, Son Goku happily waved an arm. "Great!"
"Vegeta, just watch!"
"If I go first, you might not even get a chance to take the stage!"
Vegeta looked thoroughly unconvinced.
"Hmph!"
"Talk after you've actually done it!"
"Fine, just watch!"
Son Goku took the Silver Box from Tarble. His face was full of fighting spirit.
Seeing this, Tarble, Vegeta, and Licks all suddenly had a bad feeling.
Damn!
Was he about to go all out??
Under their anxious gazes, Son Goku began his attempt.
As soon as he got his hands on it, his face filled with surprise: the lid wouldn't budge at all.
Huh?
What a sturdy box!
Still surprised, he suddenly unleashed his energy, hoping to try again with greater strength.
At that moment, he'd forgotten Tarble's instructions completely.
His eyes held nothing but boundless fighting spirit.
The three watching nearby gritted their teeth in anger.
Vegeta:
The idiot had actually forgotten everything Tarble told him!
If he scared the old geezer off, wouldn't all their acting have been for nothing?
Damn it!
A muscle-bound, boneheaded idiot!
He couldn't get anything done, but he could sure ruin things...
Licks:
He really did forget His Highness's instructions!
Did he not take His Highness seriously at all?
Son Goku, just you wait. If I get the chance, I'll teach you a lesson on His Highness's behalf...
As for Tarble, he was gritting his teeth in anger, too.
But he'd already made up his mind.
A sound beating!
He needed to give him a sound beating!
And a longer-than-usual one, too!
Otherwise, he couldn't keep this team in line!
Mage Hoi already had ulterior motives, and when he saw Son Goku suddenly unleash terrifying energy, his eyes widened.
They were filled with utter disbelief.
Impossible!
How could the Saiyans still have such tremendous power?
There shouldn't be any humans this strong in the universe!
Earlier, when he'd seen Son Gohan try to open the box, he'd only used his normal state.
But the energy Son Gohan had given off was nowhere near what Son Goku was radiating now.
For a moment, Hoi looked at Son Goku with wariness.
Suddenly,
he seemed to realize something. A trace of alarm crossed his face, and his heart gave a jolt. He cautiously glanced at Tarble and Vegeta.
The two of them seemed furious, as though they were... unwilling to accept it?
Unwilling to accept it...
Wasn't that the sort of expression someone wore when they were weaker than their opponent or things hadn't gone their way?
At that thought, Hoi relaxed.
Looks like I was overthinking it!
Still, this Saiyan named "Son Goku" was probably the strongest one among them!
But even that level of strength was nothing before my precious treasure!
Hmph!
Enjoy your moment of glory for a few more minutes...
Tarble, Vegeta, and Licks had no idea that Mage Hoi had misunderstood their angry expressions.
It was a case of being wrong for the right reason.
Of course,
the three of them had no idea. Son Goku, in the middle of it all, knew even less.
At that moment, Son Goku was focused entirely on prying open the Silver Box in his hands.
However,
even after unleashing all his strength in his normal state, he still couldn't move the box in the slightest.
He dug in his heels. Though he was secretly astonished, his fighting spirit began to boil.
But before trying for the third time, he glanced back at Licks and said with heartfelt admiration, "Licks, this box really is something!"
"I thought you were just pretending earlier!"
"Looks like I'll have to show what I can really do."
As soon as he finished speaking,
three objections rang out at once.
"Idiot, stop right there!"
"No!"
"Stop, Goku!"
Taken aback by the sudden objections, Son Goku said, "Huh?"
"You guys..."
Before he could finish, he saw Tarble appear in front of him in an instant. Then the box suddenly felt light in his hands, and the Silver Box was in Tarble's possession.
When he saw the displeased look in Tarble's eyes, he finally remembered what Tarble had told him earlier.
Crap!
He'd forgotten to hide his strength...
