Background / History

Piccolo watches Goku’s battle with Frieza on Namek alongside Krillin and Gohan. From the outset, he recognizes that Goku is being pressured despite the fight’s outward back-and-forth appearance, believing that an opponent should commit close to full strength rather than hold techniques back. 4 6

When Ron appears, Piccolo remains guarded around the unknown Saiyan and warns him against lying about Frieza’s power. He later accepts Ron’s offer of energy, though he regards the borrowed strength with prideful disdain. 10 14

The Grand Elder later unlocks Piccolo’s potential, raising him to 10 million combat power. Before his death, the Grand Elder also teaches him Namekian training methods and the secret of becoming a Super Namekian. 43 46
