|---|---|---|
| Post-resurrection increase | 36–41 | Resurrected through North King Kai’s wish; his strength rises sharply after returning to life, eventually exceeding 4 million after recovery from injuries. |
| Potential Unleashed | 43 | The Namekian Grand Elder unlocks his potential despite Vegeta’s past crimes against the Namekians. |

| True Super Saiyan | 117 | Under Whis’s guidance and following his own realization, Vegeta fully masters Super Saiyan energy and transforms. His base power exceeds 14 million—possibly 15 million—and his transformed power surpasses 700 million. |
| Advanced Super Saiyan forms | 118 | Six months after becoming a true Super Saiyan, he can readily access the second and third forms of the first Super Saiyan stage and approaches Full Power. |
Background / History
Vegeta was revived after being tormented by Frieza in the afterlife. Initially, he viewed his return as an opportunity to overthrow Frieza and become the new Emperor of the Universe; he remained openly hostile toward Son Goku despite realizing that Goku’s group had deliberately restored him to life 36 37.
His confidence collapsed when he learned that Ron—a Saiyan born with a combat power of only 100—had defeated Frieza as a Super Saiyan. As the Prince of the Saiyans, Vegeta considered himself the warrior destined for that legend, making Ron’s achievement a profound humiliation 37 39.
The Grand Elder later unlocked Vegeta’s potential, an act of mercy that surprised everyone because Vegeta had killed Namekians during the Dragon Ball conflict. Vegeta subsequently chose to remain and face King Cold and Cooler rather than flee, partly out of respect for the Grand Elder’s grace 43 44.
Personality
Vegeta is intensely proud of his royal Saiyan identity and initially treats strength as proof of personal worth. His fixation on being the Saiyan Prince and surpassing Son Goku repeatedly becomes a mental barrier, causing him to lose composure when others advance beyond him 37 50 88.
Despite this arrogance, he is capable of reflection. Ron’s criticism forces Vegeta to confront how his pride, obsession with shortcuts, and constant comparison to Goku have restricted him. He gradually becomes more decisive and disciplined, though newfound power repeatedly threatens to revive his old overconfidence 72 88 94.
By the time Whis begins instructing the Z Fighters, Vegeta recognizes the immense gap between himself and divine beings. Though reluctant to set aside his pride, he develops genuine reverence for Whis and wants to seek his guidance 99 107 116.
Abilities & Skills
Saiyan Physiology
Vegeta’s Saiyan body allows him to grow stronger through intense combat, recovery, and physical training.
- Gains a major increase in strength after resurrection and recovery from injuries 36 41.
- His potential is unlocked by the Grand Elder, accelerating his later growth 43.
- His Super Saiyan breakthroughs are tied to accumulated strength, emotional resolve, and overcoming internal barriers 91 109.
Super Saiyan Energy
Vegeta first accesses incomplete Super Saiyan power before later completing the transformation.
- His Pseudo Super Saiyan form manifests pale-purple and pale-gold energy rather than the golden hair of a true Super Saiyan 91 94.
- The incomplete form possesses stable, enduring power superior to Son Goku’s short-lived twenty-fold Kaioken, but it is still not a genuine transformation 92 94.
- He becomes a true Super Saiyan after training under Whis’s guidance and fully mastering Super Saiyan energy 117.
- He later develops the second and third forms of the first Super Saiyan stage 118.
Gravity Training
Vegeta uses extreme gravity to temper his body and force continued growth.
- Initially collapses after barely a minute under one-thousand-fold gravity 80.
- Trains for nearly ten hours under six-hundred-fold gravity, contributing to his rise to 11 million combat power 99.
- The training improves his explosive force and energy application in battle 89.
Combat Skill
Vegeta is an aggressive close-quarters fighter whose offense becomes more dangerous as he is pushed.
- His “Prince’s Tactics” emphasize relentless, tornado-like offense and complex, escalating attacks 89.
- He can rapidly adapt during battle, using combat pressure to release power he had accumulated but could not previously access 89.
- Ron considers Vegeta a seasoned warrior capable of quickly recovering his footing even against a vastly superior opponent 92.
Relationships
- Son Goku — Primary rival. Vegeta is repeatedly humiliated by Goku’s growth, but their competition drives both men to train harder; they become evenly matched after both attain true Super Saiyan 37 50 78 117 118.
- Ron — Superior Saiyan, mentor, and combat catalyst. Ron repeatedly confronts Vegeta’s self-destructive pride, guides his training, and pushes him into his Pseudo Super Saiyan breakthrough 72 88 95 117.
- Piccolo — Initially hostile rival. Piccolo humiliates Vegeta after his resurrection and remains skeptical of his incomplete Super Saiyan state 38 93.
- Grand Elder — Grants Vegeta a potential unlock despite his history of killing Namekians, creating a sense of obligation that influences Vegeta’s later choices 43 44.
- Whis — A figure Vegeta remembers as Beerus’s attendant. Vegeta fears and resents him due to childhood memories, but later seeks his cultivation guidance 99 107 116 117.
- King Cold and Cooler — Their arrival initially frightens Vegeta, who understands their threat better than the others. His fear of Cooler becomes the subject of Ron’s rebuke 46 67 72.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Resurrection and the Namek Aftermath
Vegeta returns to life through North King Kai’s wish and immediately seeks answers from the group gathered around Porunga. Learning of Ron’s Super Saiyan status destroys his belief that royal blood and innate talent guarantee supremacy 36 39.
Potential Unlock and the Cooler Conflict
The Grand Elder unlocks Vegeta’s potential, then Vegeta remains on Namek despite his fear of King Cold and Cooler. He decisively eliminates Cooler Force soldiers and adopts the title “Super Vegeta,” but Cooler's transformation later shakes his resolve 43 46 68 72.
Earth Training and Pseudo Super Saiyan
After returning to Earth, Vegeta trains under extreme gravity and seeks Ron’s guidance. Ron challenges his fixation on status and shortcuts, then uses battle to force Vegeta into self-reflection. Vegeta breaks through to Pseudo Super Saiyan, only for Ron to defeat him and teach him that the transformation does not make him invincible 79 80 88 95.
Whis’s Arrival and True Super Saiyan
Vegeta recognizes Whis as Beerus’s attendant and gradually accepts that he must learn from stronger beings. Following Whis’s instruction and Ron’s earlier guidance, he fully becomes a Super Saiyan; his breakthrough immediately provokes Goku into attaining the form as well 99 107 116 118.
