After saying that, Carl turned and left. He wanted to find Newgate. After all, in the Rocks Pirates, Newgate was the only one he got along with fairly well. He wanted Newgate to teach him how to master Observation Haki.

Carl saw that it was almost evening, so he decided to visit Newgate the next morning with a jug of liquor. That might improve his chances of success.

He ordered his men to find a jug and fill it with the special liquor from Newgate's hometown.

Emission meant extending Armament Haki over weapons and clothing, increasing a weapon's attack power and an object's durability.

Internal destruction meant driving Armament Haki into an enemy's body to damage them from within.

So far, Carl had only learned to coat his fists and arms. He still had a long way to go before he could cover his whole body.

He was eager to grow stronger. The God Valley Battle was drawing closer, and he needed to gain the ability to protect himself as soon as possible.

Moreover, his strength had come too easily. Although his overall power was on par with a Vice Admiral, he had very little combat experience.

He had defeated most of his enemies through his unreasonable strength and seemingly endless stamina. Even John had fallen to him that way, though Carl had also used a few tricks.

But if he faced a Marine Admiral in a fight to the death, he might not last long before losing. He had no intention of running away in defeat when that day came.

At dawn, as the first rays of sunlight fell across the land, Carl carried a huge jug of liquor to Newgate's room.

Newgate kindly reminded him again.

As soon as Carl finished speaking, Newgate had already hurled a small stone at his right shoulder.

Carl felt a gust of wind, then a sharp pain shot through his right shoulder. His body was knocked backward before he could react.

Even though Titan Power was constantly enhancing his body, the pain still spread through him in an instant.

He had been completely relaxed, so his muscles weren't tensed.

He got back up and gritted his teeth.

"Again!"

Seeing that Carl wasn't badly hurt, Newgate flung three small stones in quick succession. They were even faster than the first.

They came at him in a triangle, aimed at his legs and abdomen.

"Thud!"

Carl heard the stones coming and immediately tried to dodge, stepping to the right, but one still struck him in the abdomen. He slammed hard into the beach.

"Ugh!"

"Argh!"

Pain spread from his abdomen through his whole body. Newgate really wasn't holding back!

Seeing that Carl was all right, Newgate launched another attack.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"

He gave Carl no time to react before the next barrage came flying.

One attacked, the other dodged!

Carl and Newgate kept at it on the island, one attacking while the other dodged, until nightfall.
