Background / History
Kuma emerged during the rebellion in the Sorbet Kingdom, where he attacked the kingdom’s generals and killed most of the fighters previously hired to suppress him. Minister of Finance Hafiz subsequently contracted Luo Ya to capture or kill him. 20
At the siege of the Sorbet Kingdom, Kuma defeated General Devon—despite Devon’s Tiger-type Zoan transformation—with a single exchange of Paw-Paw Fruit attacks. He then confronted Luo Ya, who had accepted King Bekli’s commission but stated that he was interested primarily in fighting Kuma. 21
Kuma and Luo Ya fought continuously for two days and two nights. Kuma was ultimately defeated after Luo Ya’s Scorching Cloud melted and revealed the restored true form of Ryujin Jakka. 23 24 Ivankov rescued Kuma after the battle, and Luo Ya chose to spare him. 24 25
Following King Bekli’s return, Kuma and Revolutionary Army fighters cornered and beat the king. Kuma later sank several naval warships sent against Sorbet Kingdom, leading the World Government to brand him a pirate and issue a 210 million Beli bounty under the title “The Tyrant.” 25
Appearance
Kuma is an exceptionally tall man with comparatively thin legs. His palms bear soft, pink paw pads, which he coats in Armament Haki during combat. 22
- Towering stature, notably larger than most opponents. 22
- Paw-padded palms are the focus of his Devil Fruit techniques. 21 22
- Uses pitch-black Armament Haki hardening over his paw pads. 21
Personality
Kuma is a determined and resilient combatant who continues fighting through prolonged, punishing battles. During his clash with Luo Ya, he withstood powerful flame-based attacks and severe exhaustion while maintaining his counteroffensive. 22 23
His actions against King Bekli and the government warships establish him as an opponent of the Sorbet Kingdom’s tyrannical rule and of the forces sent to restore it. 25
Abilities & Skills
Paw-Paw Fruit
Kuma possesses the Paw-Paw Fruit, using his paw pads to repel force and compress air into destructive attacks. 21 22
- Reflected Devon’s physical force back at him on contact, rendering Devon’s claws ineffective. 21
- Produces Pressure Cannons, compressed paw-shaped air bubbles that can pass through a target and damage their entire body. 21
- Can fire larger, more solidified paw bubbles as explosive air bombs that devastate structures and inflict heavy impact damage. 22
- Formed a massive compressed air bubble to withstand Luo Ya’s Scorching Hell technique. 22
- Can extract injuries and fatigue, but the extracted burden returns to the wounded person unless another individual accepts it. 24
Armament Haki
Kuma hardens his paw pads with Armament Haki, allowing him to directly block and counter Luo Ya’s flame-infused sword attacks. 21 22
- Blocked Luo Ya’s Support Slash head-on and sent him flying back. 22
- His Armament Haki-coated palms resisted Luo Ya’s attacks for most of their battle, though one palm received a minor scorch injury. 22
Combat Endurance
Kuma endured a two-day-and-two-night battle against Luo Ya, reaching the final exchange while both fighters were completely exhausted. 23
- Withstood Setting Sun Blade, Pine Torch, Black Flame Mode, and Scorching Hell during the conflict. 22 23
- Required time to charge his strongest moves, a weakness Luo Ya identified and exploited. 23
Relationships
- Luo Ya — Enemy and eventual victor in a two-day battle; Luo Ya spared him after defeating him. 21 23 24 25
