Background / History

Shiki was a great pirate regarded as a contemporary of Roger and Whitebeard. After being imprisoned for attacking Marine Headquarters, his original Flying Pirate Crew was largely destroyed or crippled. He later rebuilt his force with new recruits, though he considered most of them disposable cannon fodder rather than worthy subordinates. 91 104

He operated from a Floating Island in the East Blue, where he raised mutated beasts and prepared a long-term plan to destroy East Blue. His island could be relocated and replenished by lifting other islands into the sky. 91 104 107

Personality

Shiki is flamboyant, prideful, and openly contemptuous of weakness. He treats the lives of his crew as expendable, forcing over a thousand pirates to fight Luo Ya for the right to survive and potentially become his vice-captain. 104 105

Shiki seals Luo Ya inside an arena with the surviving pirates and forces him to slaughter them before accepting his challenge. Luo Ya kills the remaining pirates, after which Shiki agrees to fight him directly. 105 106

Final Battle with Luo Ya

Shiki repeatedly overwhelms Luo Ya through superior aerial mobility, Haki control, and swordsmanship. Luo Ya’s Undying Black Flame allows him to regenerate lost limbs and fatal wounds, turning the battle into a prolonged war of attrition. 106 108

After attempting to flee, Shiki is provoked into returning when Luo Ya insults Roger. On the fifth day, Shiki removes the wheel from his head, wields Oto and Kogarashi with both hands, and releases his full Conqueror’s Haki. 107 108

Shiki dominates Luo Ya in their final exchange, severing his limbs and inflicting fatal-looking wounds. However, after Luo Ya’s final counterattack, Shiki reflects that his era has passed and is split apart by his own sword intent. 109

Death and Aftermath
