Background

Kurenai first became connected to Ye Yuexin through Anko. While newly enrolled at the academy, she found Anko cornered by other children, rescued her, and escorted her back to Ye's home. She and Anko subsequently became best friends, with Kurenai often visiting Ye's house to play with her. 24

After falling into a mud pit while playing near Ye's house, Kurenai was brought there to clean herself up. Ye accidentally saw her bathing; distraught over the incident because of her traditional upbringing, Kurenai only calmed down after Ye promised to take responsibility for her. Though Ye regarded the promise as a childish attempt to comfort her, Kurenai took it seriously and repeatedly asked when he would marry her. 24

Ye later told her that he would marry her once he became a Kage-level powerhouse. Kurenai continued to treat this as a meaningful commitment, while her affection for him developed alongside the security she felt in his presence. 24
