Background / History

Itachi attended the Ninja Academy in the same class as Ye Yuexin. At age five, he encountered Ye Yuexin training in a forest outside Konoha; their spar ended without either landing a hit. Itachi had practiced shurikenjutsu away from the Uchiha training grounds to avoid showing off, while Ye Yuexin's speed prevented Itachi's Fire Release and shuriken from connecting. Afterward, Itachi took the initiative to befriend him. He also spoke warmly of his unborn younger brother, Sasuke 2.

Upon graduation, Itachi and Ye Yuexin were denied normal team assignments because of the Third Great Ninja War. They instead became freelance Genin, permitted to train independently or accept suitable missions without a team leader 1.

The two began operating as mission partners. During their first C-rank mission, Itachi sought Ye Yuexin out after D-rank missions were cancelled due to the war and insisted that they take a C-rank assignment together 5.

Personality

Itachi is cool, reserved, and serious even at a young age. He often responds to Ye Yuexin's teasing with silence or irritation, but their habitual dumpling outings and his willingness to search for Ye Yuexin show that he values their friendship 1 5.

He is proud and stubborn, particularly about falling behind Ye Yuexin. After acknowledging Ye Yuexin's superior strength, he seeks out Shisui's Body Flicker Technique and pushes himself until exhaustion rather than accept the gap in speed 12 20 22.

Itachi accepts a C-rank mission with Ye Yuexin and handles the jackal-related portion of their operation with genjutsu support in mind 5 7. He is ambushed by rogue ninjas, badly injured, and nearly killed, but eliminates Xiaoyan before Ye Yuexin arrives to save him from Tuno 8 9.

Twin Ox Mountain Investigation

After Tuno is interrogated through Itachi's Sharingan genjutsu, Itachi refuses to remain behind and rejoins Ye Yuexin at Twin Ox Mountain 10 12. He supplies fifty Explosive Tags and uses Phantom Vision Technique to support the bridge sabotage 13. When the plan is anticipated, he fights the twin swordsmen, kills Xiao Wu, and defeats Yemu by exploiting the weakness of Yemu's Petrification Technique in the rain 14 15 16.
