The group was ambushed by opposing wizards, and Benjamin warned Jonathan just as a spell struck another member.

  • A Ministry employee watched his colleagues fall to dark wizards and hesitated to fight back before a Blasting Curse drove the attackers into cover.
  • Benjamin Netanyahu’s group approached the crater, and Yair killed one of the dark wizards hiding there despite his companion’s protests.

Ch. 1953The Ever-Distant Commands

Benjamin Netanyahu directed his Dark wizards through an ambush, using their attacks to cover his own retreat. Jonathan realized Benjamin had fled, but a Stunning Spell knocked him unconscious before he could react.

  • Benjamin Netanyahu ordered his group to spread out as ambushing wizards opened fire, killing or wounding several of his men.

Ch. 1954We Could Only Hurry Up and Fight Back!

Percy healed an injured dark wizard and interrogated Benjamin Netanyahu, learning that Canaan wizards had been sent to help You-Know-Who take Hogwarts. Fred and George admitted they had incapacitated Netanyahu with candy containing one of Wizet’s practice potions, and Fred wondered if Wizet had brewed Veritaserum.

  • Percy healed the badly injured dark wizard while Ministry employees guarded the battlefield.
  • Fred and George returned on broomsticks with Benjamin Netanyahu, whom they had caught while escaping.

The chapter left them fleeing from battlefield to battlefield, only to encounter professors whose spells, Transfiguration, traps, and curses steadily overwhelmed them.

  • Dark wizards expected to defeat the Ministry forces, eliminate the Aurors, and eventually help Voldemort kill Dumbledore.
  • Dark wizards encountered a Hogwarts professor whose precise spellwork quickly felled attackers and piled up incapacitated opponents.
  • Dark wizards fled to another battlefield, where a professor transformed scraps and plants into creatures that attacked them while animated suits of armor pursued them.

Ch. 1958You Don't Understand at All!

Snape defeated the dark wizards and was joined by the identical twins, who teased him before flying off. The newly arrived dark wizards argued with the defeated group, then recalled how students with a Swooping Evil had overwhelmed them in battle.

  • Snape cast Sectumsempra on the dark wizards who had just arrived, and they screamed in pain.
  • The Weasley twins landed on their Flying Broomsticks, joked with Snape, and received his scolding about fighting in the air.
  • The twins flew away after saying they would soon graduate and Snape would no longer be able to take points from them.
  • The dark wizards who had been defeated first mocked the newcomers for losing to students, while the newcomers insisted the students were monsters.
  • The newcomers recalled how a student coordinated with a Swooping Evil and Ministry of Magic employees to defeat several of their companions, forcing the rest to withdraw.

Ch. 1959The Still-Abnormal Students

Dark wizards fleeing across the battlefield were repeatedly overwhelmed by students using unexpectedly powerful spells, enchanted weapons, and creatures, until they reached Snape. The exhausted wizards pinned their hopes on Voldemort as his duel with Dumbledore appeared to reach its climax.

  • Dark wizards met companions who warned them about a red-haired student and five coordinated Acromantulas, then a rumbling figure attacked and they abandoned the injured.
  • The Dark wizards attacked a bespectacled student and a round-faced student, but the former's Disarming Charm knocked them unconscious and the latter's enchanted longsword struck them down and broke their wands.
  • Devil's Snare trapped the fleeing wizards despite their attempts to use light and fire, and a lightning-summoning owl and explosive Magic Fireworks attacked the few who escaped.
  • The surviving Dark wizards reached Snape, while those across the battlefield hoped Voldemort would defeat Dumbledore and return to lead them.
  • The flashes of magic above grew brighter and more spectacular as Voldemort and Dumbledore's duel seemed to approach its decisive moment.

Ch. 1960Why?

Voldemort bombarded Dumbledore with crimson meteors, but Dumbledore held them back long enough to recover and counterattack. Voldemort renewed his assault, and Dumbledore met the next meteors with crystalline ice shields.

  • Voldemort sent crimson meteors toward the battlefield, forcing Dumbledore to intercept them with a spherical magical energy field.
  • Voldemort launched more meteors, and Dumbledore's field withstood the bombardment but left him exhausted and weakened.
