Marco glanced in the direction those people had left. "Was it them?"
"Yes." The wrinkles on Old Ross's face looked even deeper under the wall lamp. "There are always a few villains in Natoli District."
Natoli District?
Thinking of what made that place special, Wei En asked, "Are they nobles?"
"No. Just some pitiful wretches from families whose extraordinary bloodline never awakened."
Marco's expression darkened. "But the other members of their families still hold considerable power, or have awakened extraordinary bloodlines, which lets them act without restraint."
"I see..."
"Let's go. There will be people specially assigned to handle things over there." Old Ross turned and walked deeper down the corridor, saying as he went, "Unless necessary, I don't want to trouble you, Marco."
"Mm." Marco took a deep breath. "Let's hurry. If it's still early, we might even be able to go to the tavern upstairs for a couple of drinks."
"All right. Hm? Better not. Don't you still have cleanup to do?"
"Oh, right. I almost forgot the important business."
Marco returned to his earlier air of not caring about anything, a smile appearing on his face again. "But after we go back, you can't tell Lacy I brought you here... She'll kill me."
"Of course."
Wei En nodded, then looked back across the way once more. A glimmer of lamplight had appeared deep in that corridor, but the armored guards did not show up again.
An Aberration, maybe. Out of control?
And when he thought of those panicked nobles fleeing... he seemed to have guessed the truth of what had happened.
