Background / History
Dongye Huanglong founded the group after Bartholomew Kuma became his first member. Huanglong chose the name himself while releasing uncontrolled Conqueror's Haki; Kuma immediately recognized him as the group's leader. Bonney accompanied Kuma into the organization’s orbit from its formation. 9
The group initially developed around Sky Island and Huanglong's retaliation against the World Government. Kuma trained Huanglong in Observation and Armament Haki, while the Tontatta assisted with Observation Haki practice. Kuma ultimately declined to return to the Revolutionary Army, citing Huanglong's cure for Bonney and his willingness to kill a Celestial Dragon in revenge for Ginny. 9 51
Its rapid growth brought together powerful Devil Fruit users, former pirates, scientists, and later prisoners from Impel Down. By the time of its exchange with the Revolutionary Army, its core strength—Huanglong, Kuma, and Enel—was considered capable of contending with a Shichibukai force, despite the organization being only months old. 53
After attacking Enies Lobby, Impel Down, and Mary Geoise, the group became a direct strategic threat to the World Government. It freed Great Pirate prisoners from Impel Down, used them as a growing combat force, and fielded Pacifistas, Seraphim, and the Huanglong Six Paths. 220 230 242
The group later expanded into the New World with a full flying fleet. It plundered the Mars Kingdom, liberated slaves from three major ports, seized G-5 Fortress, defeated Golden Lion Shiki and the Wang Zhi Pirates, and occupied territory formerly held by the Whitebeard and Red-Haired Pirates. 314 318 320 340 406
During the final conflicts surrounding Imu, the Níðhöggr Black Dragon, and the Shadow Power crisis, the group suffered major losses, including Enel and Shiryu. It nevertheless remained aligned behind Huanglong after he absorbed the Black Dragon's power and reorganized the world order. 602 606

Recruitment and discipline
- Recruitment is based primarily on strength, usefulness, or shared hostility toward the World Government and Celestial Dragons. 176 220 224
- Huanglong permits powerful individuals to join through shared interests, but warns that those who insist on operating independently will not receive his protection. 224
- The group also absorbs liberated slaves, prisoners, and defeated pirates; this rapid expansion creates concerns over spies, traitors, and internal instability. 242 245 278
- Members are expected to train continuously. Huanglong regularly spars with subordinates and uses high-level opponents to force their growth. 80 146
Resources and Military Capabilities
Flying Fleet
- Ark Maxim — The group's flagship and mobile command vessel. It was upgraded to exceed the size of the Celestial Dragons' luxury warships. 297
- Desolate Dragon Warships — Eighteen captured luxury warships renamed and assigned to qualified cadre captains. 297
- Aerial warships — The fleet grew to approximately fifty to sixty flying warships through Float-Float Fruit modifications, lightning-powered systems, and Sky Island engineering. 278 297
- Moon Core weapons — Weapons forged from Moon Core material, described as stronger than Supreme Grade Swords and resistant even to such blades. 252 253
Scientific assets
- Artificial Devil Fruits — Vegapunk's research division produces artificial Zoans and studies powerful abilities for replication or cultivation. 108 253
- Bloodline-factor research — The group collects blood from ancient creatures, rare races, Mythical Zoan users, and other powerful individuals to develop abilities and artificial weapons. 131 230 310
- Pacifistas and Seraphim — Combat cyborgs and Seraphim are cultivated for future deployment; the Seraphim combine Lunarian physiques with high-grade Devil Fruit abilities. 108 230
- Huanglong Six Paths — Huanglong's destructive Seraphim unit, designed around top-tier Paramecia powers including Tremor-Tremor, Soul-Soul, and More-More abilities. 230 232
Intelligence and mobility
- The group avoids conventional sea travel when possible, relying on airships and Kuma's Paw-Paw Fruit mobility. This made locating its bases exceptionally difficult. 256
- Violet serves as a major reconnaissance asset through the Glare-Glare Fruit's Thousand-Mile Eye, with a stated observation range of 4,000 kilometers. 141
- Nico Robin, Lafitte, and Capone Bege act as strategic planners and intelligence personnel. 294 296

| Sky Island near Jaya | Former headquarters | The World Government located this base through Sky Island-route intelligence operations. 278 |
| Moon base / Birka City | Research and production site | Used for Moon Core mining, weapon production, prisoner modification, and Devil Fruit research. 252 253 |
| Baron Island, New World Sky Island | True New World stronghold | Established as the group's concealed New World base. 406 |
| Divine Dragon Holy Land | Public main base | The renamed Hachinosu Island served as the group's overt headquarters. 406 |
Major Operations
Early war against the World Government
Huanglong publicly killed Saint Charlos, ordered reporters to document the act, and began establishing the group's reputation as an enemy of the Celestial Dragons. 32
The group later killed Jagarcia Sabbi Saint at Sabaody, declared war on the Celestial Dragons, attacked Marine Headquarters, destroyed its flag and buildings, and withdrew before the Marines could contain them. 71
Impel Down raid
The group overwhelmed the first four levels of Impel Down, defeated Magellan and the prison's senior staff, and opened the way for the recruitment or coercion of powerful prisoners. Shiryu of the Rain expressed his desire to join specifically to fight Celestial Dragons. 220
The released prisoners were subsequently used as a major expansion force. Some joined in exchange for the return of their hearts, while others became temporary captains under the group's authority. 242 252
Holy Land Incident
Law and Bege led an assault on Mary Geoise to loot and kill Celestial Dragons while Huanglong confronted Imu. Seraphim Kuma ordered a retreat after the operation became untenable. 241
The incident exposed the group's ability to strike Mary Geoise directly and forced the World Government to strengthen the Holy Land with Kizaru's guard duty, anti-air weapons, protective shields, and seawater defenses against Kuma's positional markers. 252
New World campaign
The group openly invaded the Mars Kingdom with its flying fleet, splitting into six detachments to raid ports, a CP3 branch, and G-T3 Marine branch while Huanglong advanced on Bari City. 314
At the three major ports, the group freed slaves, plundered resources, and attacked World Government infrastructure. Its crimson flag became a symbol of liberation among many of the people it rescued. 318
After looting Bari City for nearly one hundred billion Belly, the group shifted targets unpredictably and captured G-5 Fortress instead of proceeding against the expected Celestial Dragon territories. 319 320
Conquest of pirate territories
The group defeated Golden Lion Shiki, absorbed new recruits associated with Bartholomew and Edlago, and expanded its aerial fleet with captured assets. 277 278
It later attacked Hachinosu Island and annihilated the Wang Zhi Pirates, confirming that rival pirates and Marines alike could become targets. 332 340
By the time Hachinosu was renamed Divine Dragon Holy Land, most former Whitebeard and Red-Haired territories flew the group's crimson blood flag; Dressrosa and Fish-Man Island also voluntarily raised it as affiliated nations. 406
Relationships
- Revolutionary Army — Initially held a “friendly exchange” and conducted joint operations against the Celestial Dragons; relations remained strategic rather than fully unified. 51 53 176
- Bartholomew Kuma — First member and a key loyalist; he remained because Huanglong cured Bonney and avenged Ginny. 9 51
- Jewelry Bonney — Early member closely tied to Kuma; participated in slave liberation and became an outspoken supporter of Huanglong. 51 318 605
- Vegapunk — Principal scientific asset responsible for artificial Devil Fruit, bloodline-factor, Pacifista, and Seraphim projects. 108 230
- Beasts Pirates — Alternated between transaction-based cooperation and battlefield alliance, especially through artificial Devil Fruit deals and campaigns against shared enemies. 184 334
- Giant Tribe — Maintained friendly relations with Dorry, Brogy, Kashi, and Oimo; Elbaf refused Shanks' request to oppose the group. 132 320
- World Government and Marines — Primary enemies. The group repeatedly attacked Marine facilities, killed Celestial Dragons, raided Mary Geoise, and undermined government authority. 71 241 320
- Underworld Emperors — Their power and influence compelled Underworld figures to seek favorable relations with Huanglong. 421 422
Reputation
- The group was regarded as developing faster than the Revolutionary Army and eventually as stronger than any single Yonko crew in both elite strength and numbers. 53 229 278
- The World Government offered 5 billion Belly for information on the location of its main base, reflecting the urgency of locating it. 252
- After the Mars Kingdom raid, the aggregated bounties of its members reached hundreds of billions of Belly. Huanglong alone carried an 8.8 billion Belly bounty. 320
- Its actions disrupted the New World's former balance of power, causing Marines, pirate crews, Underworld forces, and affiliated nations to reconsider their allegiances. 320 340 422
