Background / History
Wu Zhangkong teaches Class Five at East Sea City Intermediate Soul Master Academy. He maintains a notably strict classroom environment, immediately punishing Tang Wulin and Xie Xie with laps for disrupting class after the arrival of transfer students Fang Yuan and Gu Yue. 10
After researching the transfer students’ records, he becomes suspicious of their unusual backgrounds: Fang Yuan is a six-year-old Rank 15 Battle Soul Master with Spirit Sea Realm spiritual power, while Gu Yue’s history and family background are virtually untraceable. 12
His interest in Fang Yuan deepens after witnessing the boy’s tool martial soul transform him into a Titan Giant Ape. Wu recognizes that the transformation is a genuine soul-beast form rather than an illusion and begins considering Fang Yuan and Gu Yue as essential candidates for the Class Promotion Tournament. 15
Personality
Wu Zhangkong is aloof, disciplined, and demanding. He imposes physically exhausting training, penalizes arguments and poor performance, and expects students to improve rather than excuse their shortcomings. 12 26
Despite his severe manner, he is observant and protective. He notices Tang Wulin secretly helping Xie Xie during physical training but does not expose him, and later entrusts Tang Wulin with organizing the team’s training because of his steady temperament and work ethic. 12 20
He is deeply invested in developing exceptional students. Wu repeatedly attempts to persuade Fang Yuan and Gu Yue to join the Class Promotion Tournament, offers them personal favors, and invites Fang Yuan to join the Tang Sect after witnessing his talent firsthand. 16 28
Abilities & Skills
Six-Ring Spirit Emperor
Wu Zhangkong is a six-ring Spirit Emperor. His strength and perception normally make his unexplained ambush particularly alarming, as he was incapacitated before detecting his attacker. 19 20
- Even while severely injured, he can assess nearby enemies with his senses.
- His injuries reduce his usable strength to roughly the early Spirit King level during the hospital incident. 20
- He is capable of fighting four students while deliberately restricting himself to two-ring strength. 27 28
Sky Frost Sword
Wu Zhangkong wields the Sky Frost Sword, a white tool martial soul that radiates cold air and frost. 28
- Its sword strikes can freeze and sever Tang Wulin’s Blue Silver Grass. 28
- He uses the weapon to repel Xie Xie’s dagger assault with overwhelming force. 28
- The frost aura lowers the temperature around the battlefield and leaves ice along the ground. 28
Teaching and Tactical Instruction
Wu Zhangkong trains Class Five through physical conditioning, combat practice, sparring, and team-coordination exercises. 12 23
- Requires students to run ten laps wearing twenty-jin iron vests. 12
- Assigns Tang Wulin as main control and Xie Xie as a harassment-focused agility attacker during tournament preparations. 29
- Orders Fang Yuan and Gu Yue to conceal their strength against Class Four so they can preserve it for stronger opponents. 29
- Identifies Fang Yuan as the central factor around whom the team’s tactics must be built. 20
Relationships
- Fang Yuan — Student whose unprecedented aptitude and transforming tool martial soul fascinate Wu; Wu recruits him for the Class Promotion Tournament and offers him entry into the Tang Sect. 15 16 28
- Gu Yue / Gu Yuena — Student whose exceptional talent and obscure background draw his attention; he reprimands her for publicly threatening Tang Wulin. 12 14
- Tang Wulin — Student whom Wu considers hardworking and one of the team’s steadiest members; he appoints Tang Wulin to organize training while hospitalized. 20
- Xie Xie — Student frequently disciplined for impulsiveness, arguments, and inadequate performance. 10 12 26
- Class Five — His students and tournament team; he emphasizes that their success depends on coordination rather than individual strength. 27 29
Story Role / Major Arcs
Class Five Instruction
Wu Zhangkong begins teaching Fang Yuan and Gu Yue after their transfer into Class Five. He enforces discipline, teaches soul-master theory, and introduces a rigorous schedule of physical training, combat practice, and academic lessons. 10 12
Recruitment for the Class Promotion Tournament
After Fang Yuan defeats Tang Wulin through a Titan Giant Ape transformation, Wu summons Fang Yuan and Gu Yue to investigate their martial souls and recruit them for the Class Promotion Tournament. He openly calls Fang Yuan an unparalleled genius and promises both transfers a personal favor if they join. 15 16
Ambush and Hospitalization
Wu is ambushed in an alley by an unidentified attacker and wakes in Haikang Hospital with severe injuries. Fang Yuan privately confirms that Di Tian was responsible for the attack. 19 20
When Evil Soul Masters raid the hospital floor, Wu prepares to worsen his own injuries to protect his students and carve out an escape route. 20
Team Sparring and Defeat
Before the tournament, Wu tests Class Five’s coordination while limiting himself to two-ring strength. Fang Yuan’s dragon-type martial soul pressure causes Tang Wulin to faint from bloodline suppression, delaying the exercise. 27
Once the spar resumes, Wu defeats Tang Wulin and Xie Xie’s opening attacks, but Fang Yuan’s Dark Night Dragon God Sword, backed by Gu Yue’s spear pressure and the team’s follow-up attacks, ultimately stops at Wu’s throat. Wu acknowledges his defeat and invites Fang Yuan to join the Tang Sect. 28
Tournament Coach
Wu prepares Class Five for its match against Class Four, assigning Tang Wulin and Xie Xie to control and harassment roles while directing Fang Yuan and Gu Yue to reserve their full strength for later opponents. 29
