Background / History

Bill was one of the three apprentices who survived the poisoned rum aboard the ferry to Mensis Wizard Academy. He and Tolia had been kept apart from the other recruits because of their superior aptitude, allowing them to avoid Ahab Gul's scheme. Bill possessed 13 points of Spirit and fourth-grade meditation talent, making him the second most gifted recruit on the ship after Tolia. He was nearly 1.9 meters tall, blond, blue-eyed, muscular, and from a knightly family. 4

Before reaching the Academy, Bill bullied Tolia, repeatedly picking her cabin lock, beating her, and disrupting her meditation progress. He then stole Tolia's Meditation Method and attempted to take Ahab's as well. 5

Ahab poisoned Bill through blood sprayed from his bitten tongue, then challenged him over the group-leader position. While Bill was distracted, Ahab castrated him, leaving him incapacitated and dependent on Gray's conditional treatment. Bill could not bring himself to stitch his own wound, unlike Ahab, and was derided by Gray for his fear of self-harm. 6 7

Bill continued to resent Ahab and sought means of revenge. He secretly followed Loghart in hopes of learning the Second-Rank Apprentice's defensive sorcery, witnessed Vivian kill Loghart with Void authority, and reported the event to Gray. 17

Later, Gray used Bill to borrow the Universal Compendium's Ancient God section, then planned to have him killed to conceal Gray's own interest in the book. Gray instead encouraged Bill's revenge and arranged for him to join Ahab's mission pursuing escaped bloodkin. 27 28

Bill was a towering, physically trained apprentice whose appearance changed drastically after his defeat by Ahab.

Bill was aggressive, ambitious, and highly conscious of his own advantages. He considered himself a naturally superior figure: a young Great Knight, a wizard apprentice, and the second-best aptitude holder among the ferry's recruits. He dismissed Ahab as a sinister petty man and believed himself to be the more righteous, heroic counterpart. 32

Despite his physical confidence and some tactical awareness, Bill repeatedly underestimated Ahab. He recognized the need to use overwhelming methods against someone he considered cunning, but failed to anticipate Ahab's willingness to injure himself, poison an opponent, or exploit distraction. 5 6

After his mutilation, Bill concealed his resentment rather than abandoning it. His desire to regain strength and take revenge drove him to pursue Loghart's sorcery, accept Gray's manipulation, use a life-force-consuming potion, and launch an all-or-nothing attack against Ahab. 17 28 32

Bill emerged as one of the ferry's highest-aptitude survivors and attempted to establish dominance by stealing Meditation Methods and preying on weaker apprentices. His confrontation with Ahab ended in poisoning, humiliation, and castration. 4 5 6

Revenge and Gray's Manipulation

Unable to let go of his defeat, Bill pursued greater power while secretly holding a grudge. Gray exploited this resentment, using Bill to obtain restricted information and steering him onto Ahab's bloodkin-pursuit mission. 17 27 28

Bloodkin-Pursuit Mission and Death

Bill joined Ahab, Lechi, Eleanor, and Daliyuan on Sistan Island. When Ahab attempted to leave with the bloodkin-controlled ship, Bill attacked with fire magic and a life-force-enhancing potion. Ahab nullified Bill's Fire Tornado with See Through, causing him to fall into the sea, then fatally struck him with three icicles. 28 31 32 33
