History
Tolia was among the few apprentices to survive the ferry voyage to Mensis Wizard Academy. Gray regarded her as having the finest innate aptitude among the recruits, granting her separate accommodations; this kept her away from the poisoned banquet that eliminated most of the other candidates. 4
After Gray showed her footage of Ahab Gul poisoning the other apprentices, Tolia became terrified of him. She locked herself in her cabin, resolved never to compete with him, and immediately offered him her Wind-Type Meditation Method so she would not be seen as a rival. 4 Bill then seized her method for himself during his attempt to become group leader. 5
Seeing Ahab stitch his own tongue wound convinced Tolia that she needed to become tougher if she wanted to survive. She bit through her own tongue, requested needle and thread from Gray, and painstakingly stitched the wound herself despite the pain. 7
Tolia is an avid reader of romance novels written by Ahab's original body's owner. When Ahab recognizes the books, he uses his claimed connection to their author to pressure Tolia into assisting him; she refuses to surrender the novels themselves, marking her first direct resistance to him. 14 She later joins Ahab and Vivian in testing Loghart's defensive sorcery, contributing three wind wheels to the assault. 15
Bill's death leaves Tolia increasingly fearful that Ahab may target her next. She visits the wishing well at midnight to pray for survival and unknowingly finds one of Lola's former anklets, which she begins wearing barefoot. 41 46
After reaching Second-Rank Apprentice, Tolia prepares to leave Ahab's dormitory area. Wizard Tupa later summons her, reveals the anklet's origin, and attempts to make her his replacement Demon Hunter Wizard. He gives her a diluted drop of Void Ancient God Odan's blood, instructing her to drink it when Ahab is about to claim a Void Authority during the Divine Kingdom Trial. 46 50
Appearance
Tolia is a small young apprentice, approximately 1.5 meters tall, with silver hair and sapphire-blue eyes. 4 7
- Slender build; noticeably dwarfed by the ferry cabin door and by Bill. 4
- Frequently carries romance novels beneath her arm. 13 14
- Uses a white silk scarf to bind her ankles together so she will not cross her legs. 5 7
- Later wears a golden anklet and commonly goes barefoot, as it keeps her feet clean and protected from pain. 41 46
Personality
Tolia is initially timid, cautious, and highly pragmatic about survival. After witnessing Ahab's actions, she concludes that her superior aptitude will not protect her at low levels and chooses avoidance over confrontation. 4
Despite her fearfulness, she is capable of resolve. Her self-inflicted tongue wound and repeated attempts to stitch it demonstrate that she is willing to endure pain to improve rather than remain helpless. 7 Her attachment to her novels is one of the few matters on which she openly resists Ahab. 14
She is manner-conscious and self-disciplined, binding her ankles to avoid crossing her legs because of her mother's teachings. 5 Her love of gentle romance stories contrasts sharply with her fear that life beside Ahab may end in death. 7
Abilities & Skills
Wind Affinity and Witchcraft
Tolia possesses high wind-element affinity and received a Wind-Type Meditation Method from Gray. 4
- Can form and launch three wind wheels in combat. 15
- Her wind wheels can kick up dust, pebbles, and grit into a small sandstorm-like gale. 15
- Her attacks were unable to break Loghart's 0.6-ring defensive water shield. 15
- By her promotion to Second-Rank Apprentice, she had mastered 0.4-ring witchcraft, though its specific spell is not identified. 46
Meditation Talent
Tolia began with 15 points of mental power, nearly three times Ahab's starting amount, and could recover her mental power in less than an hour. 8
- Surpassed 30 points of mental power within roughly six months. 46
- Her high aptitude makes her a long-term threat in Ahab's eyes, even though she initially avoids competing with him. 14
Pain Tolerance and Self-Treatment
Inspired by Ahab's ruthlessness toward his own injuries, Tolia deliberately bites through her tongue and practices stitching the wound. 7
- Requires several rests before completing the stitches. 7
- Her willingness to practice reflects determination, but she remains far less accustomed to pain than Ahab. 7
