, but if he wanted to manipulate the fire net flexibly for attacks, it became very taxing. If Hal was running, it would be very difficult to make all the "fire seeds" detonate, and the threat would be greatly reduced.
"Boss, aren't you supposed to stand sentry during the day tomorrow? You should go sleep first," Hal said.
"Then I'm going back too. It's almost time to change shifts." Aslan opened his lion's mouth wide and yawned, grumbling as he walked, "What a torment. Making a lion stay awake at night—roar."
Lin Hanxuan and Hal chuckled. Never mind that the lion was bursting with life and vigor during the day; once night fell, he was completely different, sleepy-eyed and listless. Making Aslan stand night watch really was asking for his life.
"Hal, Mr. Pulingo, I'm going back to sleep, then." Lin Hanxuan said goodbye to the two of them and walked back to his little tent.
Just after Lin Hanxuan disappeared from Hal's sight, while Pulingo and Hal were still chatting on and off, a figure quietly drifted behind Lin Hanxuan. Lin Hanxuan did not notice.
"Lin Hanxuan!" Uncle Kun's voice came from his sea of consciousness.
"Huh? Uncle Kun, you can talk to me directly now?" Lin Hanxuan said suspiciously.
"Don't worry about that for now. Someone is following you," Uncle Kun said.
"Who?" Lin Hanxuan whipped his head around and happened to meet the black shadow's eyes.
"Your Highness, forgive the offense." The black shadow's eyes released binding magic. Lin Hanxuan wanted to open his mouth and shout, only to find he could not make the slightest sound, and he collapsed against his will.
"Who are you, and what do you want?" Yi Junze saw that Lin Hanxuan had been gone for so long without returning to the tent, so he had also come out to take a look—just in time to see Xiaodong being attacked by the black shadow.
"It has nothing to do with you. Be good and lie down." The black shadow laughed dryly.
The black shadow tried to do the same thing again and release binding magic, but Yi Junze rolled away in a sorry state and shouted, "Enemy attack! Enemy attack!"
The black shadow's expression changed, and he said, "Hmph, then you can come along too." The black shadow's body expanded, blending into the night, and covered Lin Hanxuan and Yi Junze. Before the garrison arrived, they had already vanished without a trace.
"What is going on? The enemy actually slipped in here and even took the Second Young Master?" Elder Yi Yun inspected Lin Hanxuan and Yi Junze's tent. The two had not taken anything with them; clearly, they had been seized suddenly.
"Yes, this was this subordinate's negligence. I'll lead a team to search right away," Captain Parson said, turning to walk out of the tent.
"Parson, send four ten-man squads to search separately. Come back after you've dealt with it. I need to report to the clan head," Yi Yun said.
"Yes." Parson gave a military salute and left the tent to issue orders.
"Sigh, I thought this would be an easy assignment, so I volunteered for it. Now look. Parson actually poked such a huge hole for me, and even lost the Second Young Master." Yi Yun considered himself unlucky and prepared to report to Yi Tianxing.
Just as Yi Yun slowly took out the wooden message slip, still calculating in his heart how he should report to Yi Tianxing so that he could push the blame onto Parson, a burst of clamor came from the camp.
Yi Yun impatiently pulled aside the cloth curtain and roared outside, "What are you making noise for! Not a shred of military discipline. Parson, what the hell are you doing... Wah!"
"Elder, Elder, Dead City..." Two sentries ran over in a panic. One of them did not manage to stop in time and crashed into Yi Yun as he was leaving the tent, knocking the elder dizzy and seeing stars.
The sentry said, panting for breath, "Reporting to the Elder, Dead City is under attack. The lord wants us to send two hundred-man teams ahead to support them. The lord said he will arrive shortly after."
"Damn it." Yi Yun stamped his feet and roared, "What cursed day is this? Why is everything crashing together at once?"
In less than ten minutes, the garrison at the temporary encampment had finished assembling. They were only waiting for Captain Parson's order, and the cavalry could set out first.
"Elder, the cavalry has finished gearing up and can set out at any time," Parson reported to Yi Yun.
"Mm. Parson, you go probe for information first. Remember, don't act rashly, and don't recklessly join the battle either," Yi Yun instructed. Cavalry were precious fighting power and could not be wasted lightly.
"As ordered." Parson mounted his warhorse in high spirits, drew his military saber, and the fence slowly opened.
"Cavalry, target: Dead City. Move out." With a kick of both legs, the warhorse beneath Parson charged out first, leading the two-hundred-man cavalry force in a grand rush toward Dead City.
"Let's prepare as well. The clan head will be here in a moment," Yi Yun said to another Yi Family disciple behind him.
Not long after the cavalry set out, the reinforcement troops from Axon Town had already arrived, led by none other than the Yi Family clan head, Yi Tianxing. Knowing that Yi Tianxing had arrived, Elder Yi Yun unhurriedly walked out through the fence to greet him.
"Clan Head." Yi Yun bowed slightly, took the reins of Yi Tianxing's mount, and led the reinforcements into the temporary encampment.
Yi Tianxing dismounted and slowly made his inspection through the camp, nodding as he looked around. Though this was a temporary mission, Elder Yi Yun had organized the camp in a fairly orderly fashion. Once Dead City's siege was lifted, Yi Yun would have to be richly rewarded.
"Yi Yun," Yi Tianxing said. "You've worked hard this time. Once the mission is complete, the clan will reward you."
Yi Yun gave a bitter smile and said, "Patriarch, if you don't punish me, I'll already be thanking heaven and earth. I wouldn't dare dream of a reward."
"Mm? Cousin Yun, why do you say that?" Yi Tianxing tugged at Yi Yun's arm, indicating for him to walk beside him, and asked, "Did something happen?"
"Yes... Patriarch, the second young master disappeared for some reason." Yi Yun knew
