Background / History

Meng Yiran first appears alongside Chao Tianxiang when they intervene to claim the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent that Oscar is preparing to kill. Tang Si immediately takes an interest in her appearance in his inner thoughts, embarrassing and angering Meng Yiran in the other world, where she curses him through the Sky Screen comments 73.

Meng Yiran appears during the dispute over the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent soul ring. Her grandmother, Chao Tianxiang, wants the soul ring for her, while Zhao Wuji’s group needs it for Oscar. Following Soul Master world custom, both sides agree to settle the claim through a match 74.

Tang Si volunteers to fight in Oscar’s place, presenting himself as a twelve-year-old Level 30 Soul Grandmaster. Meng Yiran takes offense at his suggestion that the fight may be “unfair” and attacks first with her Serpent Cane 74.

During the match, Meng Yiran shows quick adaptation and strong technique. She escapes Tang Si’s Blue Silver Emperor vines by making her body as supple as a serpent, uses her Snake Blade to pressure him, and follows with an eight-phantom cane attack aimed at his joints. Tang Si withdraws before Meng Yiran is injured, declaring the match his loss to avoid damaging her meridians. Chao Tianxiang recognizes that he showed mercy, while Meng Yiran is initially unwilling to accept the outcome 75.

Tang Si then proposes that Meng Yiran join Shrek Academy, arguing that training alongside Shrek’s geniuses would benefit her future. Chao Tianxiang does not immediately agree but chooses to discuss the matter with Meng Shu rather than reject it outright 75.

After realizing Tang Si had maneuvered the situation so she could receive the soul ring safely, Meng Yiran’s attitude softens. She kisses him in thanks before absorbing the Phoenix-tail Crested Serpent soul ring 76.

While traveling with Shrek’s group after receiving her third soul ring, Meng Yiran becomes aware that Tang Si and Xiao Wu are a couple. She is visibly deflated by the discovery, though Chao Tianxiang is privately relieved that Tang Si already has a girlfriend 77.
