Background / History

Ji Yuan was a modern man who died after staying up late reading in his rented apartment. He awoke as a fragile Blue Silver Grass growing beside Tang San’s usual cultivation spot on Holy Soul Village’s back mountain. Furious at becoming “roadside weeds,” he quickly resolved to survive by exploiting Tang San’s opportunities rather than accepting his own weakness. 1

By absorbing purple aura dissipated from Tang San’s Mysterious Heaven Skill, Ji Yuan fulfilled the conditions for parasitic evolution and condensed his first spore. He attached it to Tang San, intercepted most of the energy lost during cultivation, and deliberately left enough behind for Tang San to mistake his stagnation for a difficult bottleneck. 1

At Tang San’s martial soul awakening, Ji Yuan used the energy he had accumulated to parasitize the newly awakened Clear Sky Hammer. He then tore free from his original roots and concealed himself in Tang San’s bundle, ensuring he could accompany his primary host to Notting Academy. 2

At the academy, Ji Yuan broadened his network through Tang San. He placed a spore on Xiao Wu after sensing her immense life essence, infiltrated the Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridge, absorbed dried soul beast meat within it, and copied information from Yu Xiaogang’s soul-beast texts. 3 4

During the hunt for Tang San’s first soul ring, Ji Yuan concealed himself in Tang San’s shoe and actively influenced events in Soul Hunting Forest. He drained the Wolf King’s heart blood, manipulated Tang San during the battle with the Datura Snake, and consumed the snake gall. 8 9 10 While Tang San absorbed the Datura Snake’s soul ring, Ji Yuan intercepted its venom and much of its power, using the stolen energy to evolve into a Bloodthirsty Demon Vine. 11 12

After evolving, Ji Yuan turned Tang San into a deliberately maintained long-term resource. He siphoned cultivation energy while ensuring Tang San remained alive and showed enough improvement for Yu Xiaogang to explain away the abnormalities as twin-martial-soul conflict or soul-ring backlash. 13 21 He later expanded this approach to Notting Academy, its black market, and Holy Soul Village. 24 26 27 28

Before leaving Notting, Ji Yuan completed a dormant maze and warning formation in the Blue Silver Grass patch on Holy Soul Village’s back mountain. He also intensified Tang San’s apparent soul-power depletion until Yu Xiaogang concluded that the Clear Sky Hammer required stronger vitality and a richer source of Soul Power, thereby preparing a journey toward the Star Dou Great Forest. 29 30 Ji Yuan subsequently forged the dark-red message on Tang Hao’s letter to redirect Tang San through Soto City toward Shrek Academy, while Yu Xiaogang remained behind. 31

After refining wonder-herb essence and the life force of the Star Dou earth veins, Ji Yuan’s demon vine core underwent racial ascension into an Ambrosial Arbor-like form. His range, regenerative ability, plant control, and ability to coordinate energy between hosts increased substantially, allowing him to fabricate Tang San’s apparent affinity with plants while secretly retaining most of the resulting life force. 77 80 81

During Shrek’s battle with Emperor Team, Ji Yuan targeted Yu Tianheng’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon martial soul to address his own weakness against lightning. When Dugu Bo descended on Shrek Academy, Ji Yuan abandoned his parasitic ties and compressed himself to a grain-sized, lifeless state within Tang San’s shoe rather than risk exposure to a Title Douluo. At the well, Ji Yuan covertly fed on spirit herbs, intercepted much of the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot’s medicinal force, and linked his main root to the underground Spirit Vein. After the group received immortal herbs from Tang San, Ji Yuan exploited the transformation of the Shrek students’ martial souls as a second major harvest. He drained newly generated bloodline and Martial Soul origin power from six Dark Web nodes, while carefully returning filtered energy before their foundations completely collapsed. The victims interpreted their resulting need to remain near Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass as harmless same-origin resonance. 129 130 131 132

Ji Yuan also covertly contaminated Yu Xiaogang’s Nine-Grade Purple Ganoderma with Remnant Dream toxin and violent Man Faced Demon Spider power, triggering a near-fatal cultivation backlash. During the Heaven Dou tournament period, Ji Yuan continued harvesting opponents and manipulating investigations. A node in Huo Wu allowed him to drain her Flame Origin whenever she attempted to recover. When Salas’s agents investigated Shi Nian, Ji Yuan planted a mixture of spider venom and Remnant Dream aura as a plausible but misleading clue. 145 149

Salas eventually entered Tang San’s room at night. Ji Yuan sealed the room with roots, disabled the eighty-ninth-level Soul Douluo’s techniques, and used a Remnant Dream illusion of Tang Hao to unsettle him. After drawing information from Salas’s attempted bargaining, Ji Yuan invaded his sea of consciousness, killed him, and consumed his remaining power and memories. He then repaired the room, planted a Disorder Splitting Wind force trace to suggest Tang Hao’s involvement, restored Tang San’s senses, and dissolved Salas’s corpse beyond recovery. 154 155 156

Ji Yuan’s targets subsequently extended toward divine power. He detected the Angel God’s Divine Sense beneath Xue Qinghe’s disguise and captured a trace of its sacred aura. Later, through the Poison Seed integrated into Yu Xiaogang’s body, he intercepted Rakshasa power leaking from Bibi Dong during Yu Xiaogang’s visit to Pope Hall. At the Advancement Tournament, Ji Yuan suppressed Plant Academy’s Martial Souls and harvested their origins through Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass. On the journey to Spirit City, Ji Yuan withdrew his visible roots before Yue Guan and Gui Mei rather than attack two Titled Douluo at once. He nevertheless collected a trace of Yue Guan’s Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum aura for future use. In Spirit City, he spread spores through underground water veins and used intercepted cultivation energy to penetrate the Angel Statue’s divine defenses, eventually reaching its accumulated faith core. 166 168 170 179

After the flight from Spirit City, Ji Yuan refined the hostile Angelic Divine Power and Rakshasa Death Qi beneath the cave sheltering Tang San, Xiao Wu, and the badly injured Tang Hao. He forced the two powers to erode each other and stripped away their faith imprints and murderous intent. The Ambrosial Arbor completed its fourth transformation, gaining dark-gold roots and broader spiritual and plant-network capabilities. Gui Mei’s subsequent pursuit provided another opportunity. During Xiao Wu’s sacrifice, Ji Yuan extended roots beneath the Ghost Domain and intercepted the hundred-thousand-year origin flowing through Tang San’s connections. He stored its Soul Power and spiritual imprints separately and postponed another transformation to avoid exposing himself. He later caught Gui Mei’s withdrawing mental power, consumed his darkness origin and ninety-fifth-level Soul Power, and left the Ghost Douluo reduced to ash. After these harvests, Ji Yuan detected the Blue Silver King’s call to Tang San’s imperial bloodline. He avoids unnecessary exposure and knows when to restrain his hunger. Despite being tempted by Xiao Wu’s hundred-thousand-year origin, he initially chooses to cultivate her as a long-term resource rather than devour her immediately. He similarly hibernates and sheds his outer bark to evade Tang Hao’s detection. 12 19

Ji Yuan is also highly manipulative. He exploits Yu Xiaogang’s confidence in his own theories, arranging Tang San’s symptoms so they can be misattributed to the conflict between Tang San’s twin martial souls. 8 13 21

His patience extends to the Shrek students. Rather than immediately consuming their origins, he calibrates the Dark Web around their limits, draws only sustainable amounts during training, and even returns controlled vitality when doing so makes a target more dependent on him. 78 85 86 92 93

Ji Yuan is opportunistic but not reckless before powerful opponents. He severs roots and abandons expendable spores to avoid Tang Hao, Meng Shu, Zhao Wuji, and other stronger soul masters, regarding concealment as more valuable than a short-term harvest. 19 36 59 60

His caution becomes absolute before Title Douluo-level threats. Upon sensing Dugu Bo’s killing intent, Ji Yuan immediately withdraws every connection to Tang San and the Dark Web, sacrifices accumulated roots and resources, and feigns complete death rather than expose his core. 100 101

Ji Yuan considers suffering useful when it produces greater leverage. He nearly destroys Yu Xiaogang’s cultivation through a poisoned Ganoderma, then sustains his life only enough to keep him useful as a theorist, a source of cover, and a guide toward future resources. 132 133 134 135 136
