Background / History
Emperor Xue Ye entrusted his son Xue Gu—later known as Xue Ya—to Xue Xing for protection amid looming war and the threat of Spirit Hall. Xue Xing relocated the child to Notting City and placed him with an ordinary family under the identity Tang San. 1
Xue Xing later became closely involved in Lin Ya's upbringing. He visited and spoiled him with gifts, personally conducted his secret martial soul awakening out of concern for his identity, and immediately arranged a soul-ring hunt after Lin Ya awakened twin martial souls and innate full soul power. He also arranged a secret passage from the awakening chamber to the nearby forest as an emergency escape route. 2 3 4
After Lin Ya provided Black Silver Liquid for blood-relative testing, Xue Xing and Xue Ye used it to confirm that “Xue Qinghe” was an impostor. Xue Xing initially advocated killing the infiltrator, but accepted Xue Ye's decision to conceal their knowledge and buy Lin Ya time to grow rather than provoke Spirit Hall. 13
As Lin Ya's capabilities developed, Xue Xing became one of the main channels through which imperial resources were directed to him. He secured ores, skilled craftsmen, laborers, elite soul masters, and death warriors for Lin Ya's soul-tool projects, while reporting Lin Ya's achievements and requests directly to Emperor Xue Ye. 35 39 48
When Qian Renxue's faction declared Emperor Xue Ye dead and attacked Xue Xing, Lin Ya, and Dugu Bo, Xue Xing was devastated by the news and faced the exposure of Qian Renxue's true identity. Lin Ya's intervention saved him during the assault. 68 69
Following Lin Ya's public recognition as Xue Ye's biological son and eventual installation as Crown Prince Xue Ya, Xue Xing became one of the key civil supporters preventing meaningful court opposition to the succession. 210 215
Personality
Xue Xing is intensely protective of his imperial family, particularly Lin Ya. His care is practical as well as emotional: he arranges guarded soul-ring hunts, provides cultivation resources, mobilizes personnel, and repeatedly worries when Lin Ya chooses dangerous fights alone. 4 5 14 68 98 105 316
He is outspoken, proud, and often impulsive. He publicly berates an underperforming guardian, uses his status to force entry into the Soul Hunting Forest, and initially proposes killing the false Xue Qinghe before considering the consequences of Spirit Hall's retaliation. 2 5 13
Although he initially portrays himself as an extravagant and carefree prince, Xue Xing accepts dangerous responsibilities without hesitation when the imperial family is threatened. He agreed to secretly raise Xue Ya despite the risks, and has consistently placed Lin Ya's safety above his own. 1 23
The false crown prince incident left him unusually suspicious of identity deception. He required Lin Ya to reconfirm their blood relationship with Black Silver Liquid even after Lin Ya's extraordinary display of power. 37
Despite his bravado, Xue Xing recognizes threats beyond his ability to face. The Inner Scenery's pressure frightened him into abandoning his question about Heaven Dou's succession, and he later admitted fear of touching its condensed sphere of light. 80
