Once a Super Saiyan's power reached a certain level, the S-cells within their body would gradually increase, allowing them to transform into a golden-haired Super Saiyan under extreme emotional stimulation.
Their strength would reach fifty times their normal state!
That was the principle behind Super Saiyans. Li Ming understood it clearly and had tried more than once, yet every attempt had failed.
Even when he was struck by Frieza's Death Destroyer, he still had not transformed completely.
This change left Li Ming deeply uneasy. If a Saiyan could not become a Super Saiyan, they had almost reached the end of the road. Relying on training alone, even reaching a battle power of over a hundred million would be incredibly difficult.
After all, they were unlike the Frost Demon race, who were born into extraordinarily harsh environments. What kind of normal lifeform could possibly emerge from the terrifying conditions of one hundred and fifty times standard gravity!?
Transformation could be considered an emergency measure developed by cosmic races when facing danger. For a warrior race like the Saiyans, becoming a Super Saiyan was the best way to gain power!
Even when Frieza suppressed his energy down to his first form, he only had a battle power of 530,000. Yet his final form possessed a full 120 million!
That was an increase of over two hundred times. What an enormous gap!
A Super Saiyan, meanwhile, only offered a fiftyfold increase. That was already the limit of Saiyan physiology. Any further increase would simply mean forcibly draining the body.
And Li Ming's current situation was that he was stuck before even reaching the Super Saiyan stage!
If he did not figure out the reason, continuing to show himself in the universe would only become more dangerous. His immediate priority was to understand his own condition.
The bustling marketplace remained lively, unchanged by Li Ming's arrival.
He walked straight up to a fortune-telling stall, another distinctive feature of the universe.
Magic and psychic powers were both special methods apart from battle power. White magic was welcomed, black magic was feared, and psychic powers excelled in their unpredictability.
However, these abilities had weaknesses as well. Take Guldo of the Ginyu Force, for example. Despite possessing the heaven-defying ability to stop time, he had been held back because he could not hold his breath for long and was terrified of death.
Moreover, these abilities were useless against beings powerful enough. No matter how miraculous magic was, it could not transcend absolute laws.
"What do you wish to know?" The speaker was a short figure in a black robe, likely another kind of cosmic race. He looked like a yellow-skinned dwarfish monster, with two abnormally bulging eyes. A crystal ball sat before him, apparently for divination.
Li Ming frowned. "I want to know what's wrong with me."
As he spoke, he stared at the wizard before him. He was unsure whether the other party could see through his identity, but one thing was certain: if this man made any move, he would be a corpse the next instant!
"Oh? Let me see. What astonishing energy. A powerful destructive force is stirring within you, yet your overly abundant vitality is preventing you from going any further. Hehehe." An eerie laugh, like that of some wicked sorcerer, rang out.
Li Ming became even more vigilant. This guy had already seen through his strength, and his judgment was remarkably accurate.
"Is there a solution?"
After laughing, the dwarf alien put away the crystal ball before saying, "Young man, don't be so hasty. Come with me."
With that, he turned and headed deeper into the marketplace. Most of this marketplace had been built underground, spanning more than ten levels. It was one of the largest marketplaces on Tusta Planet, filled with countless cosmic races and tangled forces.
Along the way, Li Ming got a glimpse of the peculiarities of these cosmic races. Before this, he had either been fighting Slug and Frieza in space or fleeing for his life.
Even when it came to supplies, Stet was usually the one who handled those matters.
As a result, Li Ming actually knew very little about this universe—practically nothing. If he had not removed his tail, the Galactic Patrol would probably have discovered him again by now.
They went all the way down to the marketplace's third underground level. Li Ming frowned repeatedly before finally following the man into a structure resembling a hemispherical dome.
A formation that appeared to be a magic circle had been arranged in the center. The diviner gestured for Li Ming to stand on it. This thing was likely related to his strength, but Li Ming did not completely trust the fellow. He remained where he was, waiting for an explanation instead.
At that moment, the wizard stopped concealing himself and pulled back the black hood over his head. Li Ming immediately felt that this guy was more than merely familiar—he looked practically identical to the Babidi from his memories!
"Hehehe, this is magic meant to draw out the potential within your body. If it succeeds, your power will become very strong."
Li Ming's eye twitched. He roughly guessed what kind of magic this was. It was probably the magic from the original story that drew out Vegeta's evil intentions, allowing him to make up his mind and settle things with Goku at full strength.
It could indeed increase battle power, but the price was being controlled by the magic and even having one's will affected to some extent—unless, of course, one possessed sufficiently powerful willpower.
For an existence like Majin Buu, there was no need to even mention it. He was the very embodiment of ultimate evil; trying to control him with so-called magic was simply a joke. Not to mention that Buu himself knew magic and excelled at both black magic and white magic.
Li Ming sighed. He still could not make too much trouble. Fighting in a place like this would only increase the risk of exposing himself, so he turned to leave.
"Huh? Don't you want to gain power?" The wizard clearly had not expected this. In a tempting tone, he said, "Just stand on it, and even the deeper power within you can be drawn out. So, what do you say?"
"Is that so? Then I really should thank you."
He left without hesitation. This guy's words could not be trusted at all. In the end, the fundamental law of the universe was the dark forest. To survive here, only absolute strength mattered.
Seeing this, the wizard finally flew into a rage. "Saiyan, you're the Saiyan who opposed Frieza, aren't you!? I know all about it! If you leave, I-I'll tell the Galactic Patrol that you're here."
Li Ming turned around, his gaze becoming deep. He was not angry. Rather, the naivety of the fellow before him had taken him by surprise.
Was this a common flaw of the Babidi Clan? They claimed to have created a lifeform like Majin Buu. Though the truth of that was uncertain, the power of their magic was beyond doubt.
Yet every one of them seemed to suddenly lose their minds, say something idiotic, and bring about their own deaths. Babidi's father had angered Majin Buu, and Babidi himself had done the same. As for this fellow, Li Ming could now be completely certain that he was one of Babidi's kin.
"One last question. What's your name?"
"Hm?" The wizard froze for a moment, then sneered. "What's wrong? Scared now? There's no harm in telling you. I am the great wizard Bafir! Don't worry, as long as you... Urgh! Y-you!"
Before he could finish, a powerful hand seized him by the throat, leaving him unable to speak. Many spells of the Babidi Clan required incantations to complete, which was also a major weakness.
Li Ming nodded, lifting him before his eyes. "I'm not sure whether you have any backup plans, but don't worry. You probably won't get the chance to use them."
Bang!
A small ki blast erupted instantly, blowing Bafir's head apart. The commotion did not alert anyone else in the marketplace. After confirming that Bafir's ki had completely vanished, Li Ming turned and left.
He could not stay in this damned place for long. Any disturbance would increase the risk of exposure. Until he figured out why he could not become a Super Saiyan, he would never show himself before Frieza again.
He wasn't afraid of Frieza. Knowing he was outmatched and still choosing to throw his life away—that would be stupidity!
On top of that, his previous plan to kill Frieza with Supernova had failed. Even if he wanted to try again now, it was impossible. Frieza wasn't stupid; he was merely often careless and complacent because of his absolute strength.
After Li Ming left, Barfiel's blood flowed onto the magic circle. The magic power within it seemed to trigger the circle's effect, and a curtain of dark purple light flashed past.
Li Ming had indeed guessed correctly. This was a spell used to forcibly control others. Anyone with a dark heart would be affected. In truth, most of the black magic the Barfiel clan excelled in was of this sort.
Control, curses, corruption, and so on...
As wizards who wielded dark magic, these people were more treacherous than the last. Even if they were killed, they would never let their enemies off easily.
