But if it meant losing himself... Piccolo clenched his fists, his nails digging deep into his palms. No, he would never allow anyone to strip away his will, even if it meant giving up the chance to grow stronger. He stared fixedly at Kami, every muscle in his body poised for battle, ready for any sudden turn of events. The atmosphere in Kami's Lookout instantly became taut with tension; even the air seemed to freeze. From afar, Son Goku and the others noticed something was wrong and cast concerned looks their way. Clouds drifted slowly across the sky, casting mottled shadows that stretched the figures of the two Namekians long and thin. "Don't worry!"
"After we merge, you'll merely gain some knowledge and power. I won't be able to affect your will at all. I will truly disappear—vanish completely into nothingness." A bitter smile touched Kami's lips, and a complicated light flickered in his eyes. If there were another way, who would be willing to fade from this world like this? He slightly raised his head, his gaze passing through the dome of Kami's Lookout as though peering into the depths of the distant universe. Yet he soon withdrew his eyes, quietly relieved—Piccolo was no longer the Demon King Piccolo of old, the one who had sought to rule Earth and ravage all living things. "You'd better not be lying to me, old man!"
Piccolo's icy gaze swept across Kami's face like a blade, his tone carrying an unquestionable warning. His fists remained tightly clenched, his muscles tense as though he were ready for any unforeseen change. Yet after a brief silence, he slowly nodded, agreeing to this fusion destined to change his fate. The two gradually approached each other, their steps steady and resolute. A solemn, weighty aura filled Kami's Lookout, as if even the air were holding its breath for this moment. They stood face-to-face, their eyes meeting as though silently conveying a thousand unspoken words. "Piccolo, from now on, you must protect Earth in my stead."
Kami's voice was low and solemn, carrying an inescapable sense of responsibility. He slowly raised a hand, a faint golden glow shining from his palm as he gently placed it on Piccolo's shoulder. In that instant, their bodies seemed to be linked by some invisible force. "Bzzz—!" A blinding white light suddenly erupted, like countless bolts of lightning intertwining in the air, instantly swallowing them both. Within the light, Kami's figure gradually blurred, as if he were slowly merging into Piccolo's body. Piccolo squeezed his eyes shut, his brow furrowed as though enduring an immense surge of energy.
The white radiance billowed like a raging tide, illuminating all of Kami's Lookout like a sacred hall. Within it, the outlines of the two figures could vaguely be seen slowly merging, as though completing a ritual that transcended life and death. An indescribable pulse of energy filled the air, as if time itself had come to a halt. Several minutes later, the blinding white light gradually faded, receding like the tide. Kami's Lookout returned to its former tranquility, though a faint lingering trace of energy remained in the air.
Only one figure remained where they had stood—Piccolo. He slowly opened his eyes, and an unprecedented light gleamed within them, as though he carried Kami's will and power, along with the duty of protecting Earth. Above Kami's Lookout, the throne that had once been shrouded in a sacred aura now stood empty, with only a few faint golden halos slowly dissipating into the air. Piccolo stood at the center of the lookout, his green skin gleaming like jade beneath the sunlight. The tense lines of his face had softened considerably, and a gentle warmth now faintly flowed through eyes that had always been sharp as blades. "Y-you're... K-Kami?"
Mr. Popo took two trembling steps forward, excitement flushing his dark face red. The teapot in his hands shook slightly, spilling scalding tea onto the white jade tiles and sending wisps of steam into the air. Piccolo stretched out his long fingers, his joints cracking crisply. He gently shook his head, his dark green cape fluttering without wind. "You're mistaken. I am neither Kami nor the Piccolo I once was." He suddenly spread his arms, an emerald glow bursting from around him. "Now, I am the reborn Super Piccolo!"
As he spoke, a vast shockwave spread outward from him, churning the sea of clouds at the edge of the lookout. Piccolo could clearly feel the power surging within him like a river bursting through a dam—more than a hundred times greater than before. Every inch of muscle was filled with explosive energy, and the swirling energy dancing at his fingertips tore fine ripples through the air. "Boom—" The doors to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber suddenly flew open, and two figures stepped out amid scorching currents of air. Vegeta stood proudly atop the clouds, silver-white energy blazing around him, fine arcs of lightning dancing through his hair.
Trunks followed close behind. Though he looked somewhat exhausted, fierce fighting spirit burned in his eyes. "Kakarot!" Vegeta's voice made Kami's Lookout tremble slightly. "Do you see it? This is Super Saiyan 2!" With a raised hand, he fired a burst of energy that instantly reduced a distant floating boulder to dust. "That bastard Cell—I'll be the one to finish him with my own hands!" Golden energy surged around him, while the battle power reading of 80 billion leaped wildly across the scouter. Vegeta looked down on everyone present, the corner of his mouth curling into a defiant smirk. Piccolo stepped forward slowly, his cape snapping in the gale. "Your power is indeed impressive."
His gaze was precise as a scalpel. "But at most, it's merely equal to Perfect Cell. If you want to defeat that evolved monster..." Piccolo gently shook his head, his green finger pointing into the distance. "You're still far from it." "What did you say?!" Enraged, Vegeta's aura abruptly surged, and the ground of Kami's Lookout began to crack. Trunks hurried forward to stop him, only to be forced back again and again by the violent energy surrounding his father. Just then, Son Goku walked forward holding Son Gohan's hand. He patted his son on the shoulder and gave Vegeta his trademark cheerful grin. "Just wait, Vegeta!"
"When we come out of the Time Chamber, we'll definitely give you a big surprise!" Son Goku waved to the others. As he turned and stepped into the Time Chamber, he suddenly looked back and winked at Piccolo. "When the time comes, we'll need you, Super Piccolo, to give us some proper guidance too!" The heavy stone doors slowly shut, swallowing the father and son from sight. Silence returned to Kami's Lookout, leaving only Vegeta's resentful roar echoing through the sea of clouds. Piccolo watched the setting sun in the distance, a brilliant point of light gathering at his green fingertip. Finally, the day arrived as promised—the time had come to head for the World Martial Arts Tournament hosted by Cell.
Morning sunlight streamed through the clouds and fell over the open space outside Kame House, the air still carrying a hint of salty sea breeze. Son Goku stretched and loosened up, his joints cracking crisply. Looking around, he saw that Gohan was already prepared to leave, his expression holding both nervousness and anticipation. "Vegeta and the others left ages ago. It's just us father and son now." Son Goku scratched his head, a trace of helplessness in his voice. Squinting into the distance, he seemed able to see through the clouds to that faraway island. "Vegeta's really too sneaky. He actually left early." Son Goku pursed his lips and shook his head in speechless exasperation.
He patted Gohan on the shoulder and gave him an encouraging smile. "Come on, Gohan. We should get going too." The two exchanged smiles, then shot into the sky, transforming into two golden streaks of light that tore across the heavens. Wind howled past their ears while the clouds rapidly fell behind beneath their feet. As he flew, Son Goku chatted casually with Gohan, trying to ease his son's nervousness. Gohan followed closely behind his father, his gaze firm as he silently recalled every detail of their training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. After flying for a little over ten minutes, a solitary island gradually came into view.
The island was surrounded by azure waters, waves crashing against the reefs along its shore with rolling roars. At its very center stood a huge circular arena, particularly conspicuous. Built from solid stone, its surface was covered in fine cracks, clearly bearing the marks of countless fierce battles.
