Background / History

Piccolo joins Earth’s defenders against Frieza’s arriving forces. Although he has trained continuously for a year, sensing Frieza and his sons exposes a gap so vast that he feels nearly powerless. The realization that Son Goku had previously defeated opponents of that level drives him to pursue greater strength. 7

Tang Yangbing’s effortless destruction of Frieza, King Cold, and Kuriza further shatters Piccolo’s former ambitions of ruling Earth. Rather than surrendering to despair, he commits himself to becoming strong enough to “shake heaven and earth.” 11

He later trains at Kami’s Lookout and witnesses Tang Yangbing’s extraordinary development. Even after becoming far stronger through his own training, Piccolo remains conscious of the widening distance between himself and the Saiyans. 16 27

During the Android crisis, Piccolo works with Vegeta to defeat Androids 17 and 18 and withstands Android 17’s barrage behind an emerald-green barrier. However, Cell’s transformations repeatedly leave him facing opponents beyond his reach. 27 30
