Background / History

A Trunks from Tang Yangbing's devastated future is found mortally wounded amid the ruins of a destroyed city. He reveals that, even after using a controller against Androids 17 and 18, a more terrifying monster defeated him and took his time machine. With the gods fallen and the Dragon Balls powerless, he regrets being unable to save more innocent people. He entrusts Tang Yangbing with the hope that he can live well before dying from his injuries. 1

A separate Future Trunks arrives during Frieza's assault on Earth, emerging from a spacecraft with a sword on his back. Tang Yangbing's damaged time machine immediately makes him suspicious and vigilant. He watches Tang overpower Frieza's group and struggles to understand how an unknown warrior from another future could have changed history so drastically. 8 10 12

Tang tells him that they are Saiyans from separate futures and that the Trunks of Tang's timeline has already died. Although shaken, Trunks continues acting according to his own mission: waiting for Son Goku, delivering medicine to avert the future tragedy, and eventually returning to his own timeline. 13 16

When the Androids appear, Trunks initially insists that Android 18 must be eliminated because of the atrocities committed by her counterpart in his future. He is later drawn into the conflict with Cell, whose future version is tied to Trunks's death. 28 30
