Background / History

Senju Hashirama confronts Uchiha Madara in a decisive battle over the future and purpose of Konoha. During the fight, Hashirama displays greater-than-expected stamina and power, continuing to use large-scale Wood Release techniques even after deploying True Several Thousand Hands. Madara and the sages Fukasaku and Shima identify an abnormal black chakra within him, later tied to Black Zetsu 77.

Hashirama is briefly caught by Fukasaku and Shima's Frog Confrontation Chant, but Black Zetsu seizes control of his body and counters with Wood Release: Diamond Summoning Wood, forcing the sages to interrupt their genjutsu. Hashirama regains consciousness afterward, unaware of exactly what happened, and is urged by Black Zetsu not to prolong the fight 77.

As the battle continues into nightfall, both Hashirama and Madara exhaust their chakra reserves. With large-scale ninjutsu no longer available, the fight devolves into close-quarters combat. Hashirama appears to gain the upper hand, but Madara uses a Water Release clone to stab him from behind 77.
