Background / History

Gato deliberately lured the Lord of the Coast toward the surface with the scent of blood from a crushed fish, refusing to fight it in its underwater home territory. The creature pursued him from the depths and emerged from the sea in search of him. 11

Gato's initial harpoon strike was stopped largely by the Sea King's dorsal fin, and the weapon became lodged in its thick scales. The injury only intensified the creature's aggression. 11 12

During their surface battle, the Lord of the Coast repeatedly attacked with its tail, jaws, and dorsal fin. Even after Gato enhanced his body with Lightning Enhancement, his punches could hurt the Sea King but could not penetrate its scales. 12

Gato ultimately used Lightning Release: Divine Void Strike. The technique's curved phantom fist struck the Lord of the Coast's forehead, caving in its exceptionally hard skull and rendering it unconscious amid convulsions and electrical arcs. 12

The Baratie crew spent over an hour hauling the serpentine Sea King aboard. Gato allowed Zeff to cook it in exchange for being fed, and Baratie held a major banquet centered on the creature's meat. 13 14 The body was divided into flame-grilled, broth-cooked, and chilled sections; by the feast's end, only its head remained, which Baratie's chefs later ate. 15

Appearance

The Lord of the Coast was an enormous, serpentine Sea King with dragon-like and crocodilian features. Its size exceeded that of the Baratie, though its body could be coiled for transport. 11 13

Extreme Durability

The Sea King's scales and skull gave it formidable defensive resilience.

• An ordinary iron harpoon could only cut through part of its dorsal fin before lodging in its scales. 11
• Gato's Lightning Enhancement greatly improved his strength, yet his repeated punches could only cause pain rather than serious injury. 12
• Its skull was described as one of the hardest parts of its body, though Divine Void Strike ultimately crushed it. 12

Physical Power

The Lord of the Coast was considered a lethal opponent for most East Blue pirates.

• It attacked using tail sweeps, bites, and slashes from its dorsal fin. 12
• It continued fighting savagely despite bleeding and sustained damage. 12
• Gato believed the so-called top pirates of the Four Seas would be defeated if they fought it. 12

Survival Instincts

The creature reacted quickly to lethal threats despite its animalistic ferocity.

• It raised its dorsal fin and lowered its head to avoid Gato's descending harpoon thrust. 11
• It sensed the danger of Divine Void Strike and attempted to flee beneath the sea before the phantom fist curved into its forehead. 12

Relationships

• Gato — Hunter and defeater. Gato lured it from the sea, struggled to overcome its scales, then incapacitated it with Divine Void Strike. 11 12
• Zeff — Cooked its body after Gato permitted Baratie to use it as a banquet ingredient. 13 14
• Baratie chefs — Hauled the body aboard, prepared it for the banquet, and eventually ate its remaining head. 13 15

Trivia

• Its meat contained unusually abundant energy; Gato used the nourishment to advance his Lightning Living Body Technique and improve his physical strength. 15 16
• Gato later judged that, after this improvement, he could likely punch through the Lord of the Coast's scales while using Lightning Enhancement. 15
• Later Sea Kings encountered in the Calm Belt were portrayed as vastly more dangerous; Gato considered the Lord of the Coast little more than food by comparison. 82
