Nothing happened overnight. Dole woke in the morning, full of vigor, and left.
Returning to the Duling Bone Tower, Dole threw himself back into his experiments. He had recently made a small breakthrough with silicon-based life.
The greatest difference between silicon-based creatures and carbon-based creatures lay in their energy levels. Carbon-based creatures were the lifeforms of this world, powered by energies that existed within it—earth, fire, wind, water, or heat and carbohydrates. Although Dole had broken free of the carbon-based model while researching silicon-based creatures, searching for energies that could replace carbohydrates and the elements, such energies were hard to find.
After recently using the special energy brought back from the Maze World, the activated silicon-based cells finally showed signs of life. What did that prove? It proved that Dole simply could not find a substrate in this world that could sustain silicon-based creatures. He would have to transport things over from the Maze World.
