Layout and Defenses
Wasen Fort occupies a basin enclosed by low mountains. Four main roads cross the surrounding ranges and enter the city from the four directions; watchtowers on the heights can oversee and defend these approaches. The terrain allows the fort to seal its access routes during an attack, though it also prevents further outward expansion. 300 301
- Dense, exceptionally tall buildings maximize the limited space within the mountain ring. 301 333
- The outer walls are extremely broad and thick, built from massive granite blocks and threaded with magical-pattern energy. 301
- Its gates are alchemical constructs; Dole judged that even sustained Fireball bombardment might not breach one. 301
- Watchtowers, ground arrays, and constant personnel from the Glory Wizard Alliance and Golden Age Guard form a layered security system. 355
- Foreign wizards must register before entry. Dole was admitted only after McLaren of the Potion Masters' Guild vouched for him. 301
- The Glory Wizard Alliance monitors the city airspace and guides incoming wizard towers along designated routes. 356
Major Institutions
| Institution | Role in Wasen Fort |
|---|---|
| City Lord's Manor | The city’s official authority and its largest power; together with the wizard-tower district, it forms Wasen Fort’s political-wizard system. 526 584 |
| Glory Wizard Alliance | Wasen Fort’s second-largest power. Its local branch protects the region, oversees wizarding affairs, and commands substantial resource holdings, including at least twelve medium-sized or larger mines and crystal deposits. 300 584 |
| Glory Wizard Alliance Tower Complex | Eight top-tier octagonal magic towers, each over twenty stories high, stand in an octagonal formation near the city center. Their linked energy extends through Wasen Fort and its magical facilities. 301 |
| Tower No. 3 | A Glory Wizard Alliance tower associated with McLaren and later Allen; it also housed the imperial investigation delegation. 301 556 |
| Warrior Academy and Wizard Academy | Wasen Fort’s two principal academies, both located outside the city. 516 |
Economy and Society
Wasen Fort is the commercial and administrative center of Northwest Province. Its streets host merchant caravans, bulk trade, high-end carriages, luxurious shops, and densely packed urban commerce. Ordinary residents are described as comparatively well-off, with silk clothing common and beggars rare. 301 333
- Auction houses and adventurer guilds offer richer magical-resource supplies than Waz City, drawing Dole to the fort in search of magic cores. 300
- Great families exert visible social influence; their young geniuses travel the streets on oversized mounts and are openly avoided by pedestrians and adventurer groups. 301
- The noble houses and wizarding factions have long competed for influence, while the Rhine Family became one of the city’s dominant historical powers through its royal connection. 366 388
- Dole’s potion courses drew most independent potionmakers in Wasen Fort, as well as some Level Four and Level Five wizards from the Glory Wizard Alliance. 391
- War sharply reduced the city’s population and economic foundations, leaving the streets noticeably less crowded. 504
- After Allen took office, he supported commoner wizards and reduced the shares held by noble wizards, weakening the latter’s influence. 634
History
Dole first became connected to Wasen Fort when Level Five wizard Mc@@REF_ENTITY_13702749@@ invited him there after certifying his potion-making ability. 235 He later traveled there secretly from Ailunge Academy to purchase magic cores, wary of enemies including the Sand Scorpion Adventurer Group, Ghostfire Sparrow, and the Tracy Family. 300
On his first documented arrival, Dole approached through the northern mountain entrance, registered as a foreign wizard, and entered after McLaren’s endorsement. He was struck by the city’s formidable walls, dense prosperity, and the scale of the Glory Wizard Alliance’s eight-tower complex. 300 301
Dole’s subsequent arrival with his flying wizard tower and students drew attention throughout the city’s professional circles. His later Level Five potion course intensified competition among the major factions and established Dole Wizard Tower as a major force among northwest potionmakers. 355 367 391
Wasen Fort became the center of several political conflicts surrounding Dole. A formal hearing against him involved the Glory Wizard Alliance, City Lord’s Manor, noble representatives, and the legion; its aftermath prompted broad reviews and audits of past affairs. 516 526 Allen’s ascent to Level Seven likewise shifted the balance within the local Glory Wizard Alliance, alarming factions that had opposed him. 538
When Dole began establishing his territory at Albis Mountain, Wasen Fort remained the administrative base for his plans. The City Lord’s Manor and Glory Wizard Alliance coordinated the application to build Albis City, which remained under Wasen Fort’s jurisdiction; Dole also returned to learn city administration from Dailulaide. 653 705 706
Wasen Fort continued to serve as a strategic rear center after Albis City’s rise. Its forces gathered for deployment to Albis City, its Glory Wizard Alliance aided the opening of the Northwest Passage, and Dole later returned there after affairs in the imperial capital. 718 753 838
