Background / History

Naruto was one of two infants left behind after the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox Uprising. Rumors identifying Naruto and Menma as embodiments of the Nine-Tails spread through Konoha, prompting Hiruzen Sarutobi to suppress information about Minato Namikaze, his children, and their status as jinchūriki. 1

As a child, Naruto was ostracized by villagers and beaten by other boys in the forest. Menma encountered him during the incident; Naruto immediately noticed their near-identical appearance and introduced himself as “the future Hokage.” The two became friends before learning of their shared blood. 3

At the Ninja Academy, Naruto was openly competitive and repeatedly declared his ambition to become Hokage. His early chakra control and general ninjutsu foundation were poor outside of techniques such as the Shadow Clone Technique and Transformation Technique, leading Kakashi to arrange additional training for him. 57 117

Naruto fought Neji during the Chūnin Exams. After Neji sealed his chakra points, Naruto drew on the Nine-Tails’ chakra to reopen them, then defeated Neji through a layered deception involving Shadow Clones and a transformed kunai. 129 130

Menma later helped Naruto confront and control Kurama directly. Naruto met Minato and Kushina during the unsealing process, then succeeded in taking control of Kurama’s chakra and entering Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. 298 301 302
