Ruger sat on the floor, his hands resting naturally beside his knees, and tilted his head toward the dome of the Bedroom Space, as though he could see the world outside.
What would it feel like to become a god myself? he wondered.
To be honest, he was a little curious, though that was all it was.
He could not help glancing at his teacher's notebook again. He even picked it up and leafed through it several times before setting it firmly back down. There were far too many possible reasons his teacher could not reply, too many to count. Even the terrifyingly vast magic array outside the space might have played a part.
Anything was possible. The only impossibility was for him to keep waiting.
He reached for the Black Book. To achieve what he had in mind, he still needed a little relevant knowledge and inspiration. It was only a small ascension ritual for becoming a wizard. To the world behind that door, it would be no problem at all.
Meanwhile, Ruger was also feeling his way forward, reflecting on what he had felt during his two encounters with the world behind the door, encounters that did not quite count as true contact. He called it seeking answers and glimpsing knowledge, but in truth, he was not searching so much as attracting. The last time, he had kept repeating the two ascension rituals and that divided notebook in his mind precisely to test this idea.
The real choice lay neither with him nor with the uncanny knowledge behind the door. It was a natural, mutual attraction, with a little luck mixed in.
If there were any other variables, it would have to be because someone lived in there.
The fully empowered Divine Object Art successfully established its anchor.
