Varin nodded at those words.
"It shouldn't be difficult for Jillian to bring a wizard apprentice into the Fairy Kingdom, right?" Zorn said casually from the side as he drank.
Listening nearby, Ruger recalled the complaints of the little Fairy King acquainted with Old Drunkard. According to it, Old Drunkard's level as a Gem Summoner was not enough to travel to the Fairy Kingdom. It was only because he happened to have it as a good friend that he could open a door to its Fairy Kingdom. Even then, coming and going was still a strain. That fellow had even complained that Old Drunkard was an idiot.
At the same time, Ruger remembered that when Wizard Jillian had held Varin and their figures vanished, he had not seen anything resembling a gateway to the Fairy Kingdom.
"It was me. I harmed milady. There is a kind of resistance within me, as well as a contract. I regarded them as a disgrace... so I never told Lady Jillian about them," Varin said softly. "And that Fairy Kingdom was very strange. It was not at all as Lady Jillian had known it before. We encountered... many strange things there."
Fairies—little spirits that hid in the cracks to survive. That was once how a wizard had crudely summed them up.
Fairies were also very mischievous. Their mischief sometimes blurred the line between right and wrong in ordinary people's eyes. Some fairies might commit exceedingly cruel acts for the sake of play, while others delighted in warm-hearted acts of kindness.
