One kind of discomfort could actually overpower another. That was interesting, but it was also a terrible contest. At least Ruger, who served as the battleground, thought it was terrible. Utterly terrible.
Ruger felt rather helpless. This was not something he wanted to explore, and it was rude, too. At least things might have been better if he had first spent a few days getting a good, long sleep. As for comparing the two kinds of discomfort, that proved nothing. What he had brought back from the corpulent Old Wizard was more of an inexplicable exhaustion, whereas what this honored guest brought was different. It felt more like the discomfort of having the deepest foundations of his life origin disturbed. Then there was the guest's gaze. That alone made him uncomfortable.
Suddenly, Ruger thought of his new friend, Lord Soldrich, who was also one of the sixty Regretful Ones and whose eyes were cold and bold.
He wondered where Soldrich was now, and whether he was still experiencing something interesting in that darkness. Given his boldness, he might have ventured quite deep.
Still, judging by his exchange with Mona when they compared their experiences, this honored guest was reasonably courteous in some respects. When they were busy with something, such as fighting sea beasts or conducting serious experiments, the honored guest had never appeared. At least, not so far. There were also times when the guest could not wait. For instance, Mona had not been sleeping, only meditating, yet the instant she closed her eyes and entered a meditative state, almost losing awareness, the guest had barged in.
So, if Soldrich was busy, he would most likely not encounter this guest. That, too, would make for an interesting experiment.
If the unexpected did happen, it would also be an interesting
