Background / History
Pei Chao was a Chinese pirate active in the Caribbean. He fought through dozens of battles, survived betrayal by his own crew, and endured being stranded alone on a deserted island. Though he admits he was not a good man, he also claims to have robbed the rich to aid the poor. His parents died when he was young, leaving him with limited formal cultural knowledge. 9 11
After arriving in the bizarre new world, Pei Chao adapted quickly through his experience of “licking blood from the blade.” He killed more than twenty green-skinned dwarves, spent earned points on meals, and split from Zhao Gang's team after a dispute over rules and responsibility. 6
Appearance
Pei Chao is a heavily built, bearded man with an imposing and fierce demeanor. His beard is notably unkempt; after awakening Poseidon's heroic spirit, it grows longer. 8 22 47 212
- Broad, muscular build. 22
- Prominent, messy beard. 212
- Usually carries a machete or saber in combat. 18 73
- Can transform into a majestic white horse through a Soul Vessel. 212
Personality
Pei Chao is prickly, rebellious, and openly disdainful of authority. He ignores rules he considers pointless, forcibly pushed through the Mutual Aid Society's checkpoint while carrying the injured Feng Buzhi, and rejects Zhao Gang's newly gained strength as merely flashy. 11 12 34
He is also proud and boastful, initially recounting his pirate career in an attempt to impress Feng Buzhi. However, his pride is tempered by a strong survival instinct: after witnessing Feng Buzhi's self-mutilation and determination, he becomes fearful but accepts his help. 7 9
Pei Chao possesses exceptional mental resilience. He can remain in the mist for hours, sleeps soundly despite its whispers, and withstands Theo's [Ghost Servant Art] through sheer willpower. 12 13 33
Feng Buzhi describes Pei Chao as lacking natural perseverance and uses a “Stockholm Cultivation Method” of extreme training followed by comparatively lighter treatment. The process leaves Pei Chao intensely loyal to Feng Buzhi and increasingly willing to pursue punishing cultivation on his own. 29 175
Abilities & Skills
Mental Resilience
Pei Chao's unusually solid mind lets him resist mental pressure, perceive the uncanny, and endure conditions that overwhelm most humans.
- Can remain in the mist for several hours without mental deterioration. 12
- Perceives Shadow after reaching the Clear Mind realm. 20
- Resists Theo's mentally invasive [Ghost Servant Art], preventing himself from becoming Theo's servant. 33
- His mental realm reaches Subtlety after his battle with Theo. 34
Pirate Combat and Physical Cultivation
A veteran fighter, Pei Chao specializes in close-range blade combat and became increasingly capable through Feng Buzhi's repeated combat drills.
- Killed more than twenty green-skinned dwarves shortly after arriving in the new world. 6
- Uses a machete, cleaver, and later a saber for aggressive chopping attacks. 18 24 73
- Completes repeated rounds of [Basic Cultivation Assistance] paired with [Extravagant Meal] to strengthen his physique. 22 23
- Performs best under life-or-death pressure; Feng Buzhi estimates that he normally accesses only about seventy percent of his full physical ability. 24
- Continues cultivating even when being beaten and healed repeatedly by Broken Fang. 193
Water-Aligned Mutated Heart
Pei Chao's heart is his mutated organ, fused with a water-related bizarre entity.
- Generates water around his saber during attacks. 73
- Cuts down a tree more than ten meters away with a water-coated slash. 73
- The entity within him remains active and aggressive even after extended time away from Feng Buzhi's direct guidance. 199
Flesh Colonization Armor

- His adaptation during battle against the Azure Ghost giant Power Horn allows him to turn a disadvantage into a decisive final strike. 80
Heroic Spirit of Poseidon
Pei Chao awakens the heroic spirit of Poseidon, inheriting memories of the sea god without losing control of his own primary consciousness. 212
- Dark-green trident — a Soul Vessel that gives him the sensation that he can summon waves and storms. 212
