Background / History

Pei Chao was a Chinese pirate active in the Caribbean. He fought through dozens of battles, survived betrayal by his own crew, and endured being stranded alone on a deserted island. Though he admits he was not a good man, he also claims to have robbed the rich to aid the poor. His parents died when he was young, leaving him with limited formal cultural knowledge. 9 11

After arriving in the bizarre new world, Pei Chao adapted quickly through his experience of “licking blood from the blade.” He killed more than twenty green-skinned dwarves, spent earned points on meals, and split from Zhao Gang's team after a dispute over rules and responsibility. 6

Personality

Pei Chao is prickly, rebellious, and openly disdainful of authority. He ignores rules he considers pointless, forcibly pushed through the Mutual Aid Society's checkpoint while carrying the injured Feng Buzhi, and rejects Zhao Gang's newly gained strength as merely flashy. 11 12 34

He is also proud and boastful, initially recounting his pirate career in an attempt to impress Feng Buzhi. However, his pride is tempered by a strong survival instinct: after witnessing Feng Buzhi's self-mutilation and determination, he becomes fearful but accepts his help. 7 9

Pei Chao possesses exceptional mental resilience. He can remain in the mist for hours, sleeps soundly despite its whispers, and withstands Theo's [Ghost Servant Art] through sheer willpower. 12 13 33
