Nature and Formation

A Soul Vessel is a unique object born when a soul combines with a strange entity or mutated organ in a specific way. It is substantially stronger than an ordinary mutated organ. No two Soul Vessels are completely identical, even when they share a name or outward form, because both the underlying strangeness and the soul differ between individuals. 120 221

Normally, a cultivator must reach the limit of the fifth rank before attempting to condense one. If the soul fire is insufficient, the strange entity will corrode the soul rather than combine with it, transforming the user into a monster. Condensing a Soul Vessel is therefore the decisive step into the sixth rank. 120 221

Soul Flame Requirements

Soul fire contains three broad regions:

• Reason — memory, knowledge, thought, cognition, analysis, and logical judgment.
• Will — justice, glory, resolve, persistence, and similar qualities.
• Desire — survival, appetite, reproduction, greed, anger, and similar impulses. 221

To create a particular Soul Vessel, its wielder must extract and forge the required types of soul flame together with a suitable strange entity. Examples include:

Companion Soul Vessels

A Companion Soul Vessel may condense ahead of schedule, allowing a low-rank wielder to use abilities comparable to those of the sixth rank, though at reduced power. Its existence indicates extraordinary potential: the wielder can naturally grow to the sixth rank and has a high chance of reaching the seventh rank if they survive. 120

Multiple Soul Vessels

A person may possess more than one Soul Vessel, but doing so can make complete condensation more difficult.

Soul Vessel Liberation

Seventh-rank wielders can comprehend a Soul Vessel's liberation, releasing its higher-level power. Feng Buzhi achieved liberation with Heart Severing, the Straw Demon Doll, and the Sword of Red Bee, though their output remained limited because he was not truly seventh rank at the time. 223 230

Heart Severing later displayed a further transformation: its katana form shattered into silver streams of light and merged into Feng Buzhi's body, allowing a seventh-tier Soul Vessel to manifest power described as equivalent to the ninth tier. 401

Plundering

Soul Vessels can be voluntarily transferred to descendants or blood heirs, but forcibly seizing one is rare. The Abyss recognizes successful coercive acquisition with the Soul Vessel Plunderer title, which improves the holder's ability to sense and continue plundering Soul Vessels. 170 224
