Background / History
The White King was once human. Feng Buzhi identifies the entity as a traitor to humanity after encountering its power through Rajko, while later events establish that the White King betrayed Francis and participated in the ambush that led to Francis’s death and humanity’s defeat 357 582.
When facing death, the White King claims that an eerie entity took root in his heart after he entered the mist and continually influenced him. He attributes his decision to kill Francis to this influence, though Feng Buzhi considers his loss of humanity—not the betrayal of Francis alone—the reason he must die 607.
For centuries, the White King monitored Earth Star and dispatched incarnations to search for contingencies left by Francis. These incarnations required prepared vessels and could survive in the main world for only three to five years before collapsing 592. The White King also spent many years laying plans involving Black Star, the Land of Evolution, and the Colony Abyssal Layer 571 592.
Appearance
The White King most commonly appears as a large white spider or a humanoid-spider hybrid. Its body and presentation vary greatly between incarnations, absorbed powers, and environments 545 577 605.
- A white creature intermediate between human and spider, with white carapace-covered fingers 544 545.
- A giant spider form with numerous eyes; one avatar is described as having sixteen eyes 568.
- Can become a towering fungal-sphere aggregate after spreading through Colony Abyss Layer 573.
- Can disguise itself as an ordinary human; on Earth Star, it wears green clothing reflecting its connection to Colony 577.
- Produces tough, sticky spider threads and can lay spider eggs that develop into backup avatars 604 605.
Personality
The White King is patient, ambitious, and intensely focused on long-term advantage. It believes that superior knowledge of Earth Star will let it dominate the Pioneering Festival, eliminate Francis, rule Black Star and the Land of Evolution, and reach the sixth or seventh rank within roughly thirty years 571.
Despite its intelligence, the White King is prone to self-confirming deductions. It repeatedly interprets Tiger-man Theo’s denials as deception, insists he is the White Tiger and an agent of Francis, and builds elaborate conclusions from assumptions Theo never made 545 546 568. This tendency leaves it vulnerable to manipulation and causes it to mistake coincidence for enemy planning.
Its priorities shift sharply with its strength. When weak, it seeks survival; after recovering power, it begins planning to bind and drain Azure Dragon Broken Fang rather than merely escape him 605. When Feng Buzhi prepares to kill it, however, the White King panics and begs for mercy 607.
Abilities & Skills
Primordial Cocoon and Evolution
The White King’s core power is linked to the Primordial Cocoon Abyssal Layer and an ability it calls [Evolution].
- Absorbs and digests living beings, then assumes their appearance and clothing 578 581.
- Produces fungal spheres and hyphae that rapidly spread through an Abyssal Layer 572.
- Can alter forms to fit a world’s logic while preserving selected traits; this transformed the White King into a human and Theo into a one-eyed cat on an alien planet 577.
- Its true body contains the power called [Evolution], later extracted and analyzed by Feng Buzhi 583.
- Its connection to an Abyssal Layer can be weakened or disrupted, as shown when little yellow flowers interfere with its control of Colony 579.
Spider Threads and Body Control
The White King uses spider silk for combat, restraint, movement, and control.
- Transforms Rajko into a diamond-spider puppet controlled through web-like white threads 357.
- Produces threads tough and sticky enough to redirect and temporarily restrain Azure Dragon Broken Fang 605.
- Controls Tiger-man Theo’s body directly, including forcing his movements and using him as a vessel 545 572.
- Can sense broad intentions and distinguish truth from lies, but cannot fully read Theo’s thoughts 546.
- Uses white pillars of light with spatial-jump properties to withdraw power or escape from endangered vessels 357.
Incarnations and Survival
The White King can divide itself into incarnations, though these copies have incomplete memories and restrictions imposed by the main body.
- Incarnations can act as distinct individuals despite originating from the main body 582.
- Creates backup avatars through spider eggs; surviving avatars can inherit the Abyssal Layer and receive the White King’s memories 605.
- Cannot reliably sense incarnations sent to Earth Star, including an unfinished frozen incarnation 592.
- Earth Star incarnations collapse after three to five years, limiting the White King’s long-term operations there 592.
White-Light Blessing
The White King can bestow white-light power upon followers or vessels.
- Rajko’s crystal giant form grows stronger after receiving the blessing, gaining refined crystal armor and immortality-related power 356.
- The blessing makes Rajko increasingly arrogant and ultimately helps transform him into a hollow spider-like puppet 356 357.
Relationships
- Francis — Former associate and eventual victim. The White King betrayed Francis and was involved in the ambush that caused his death 571 582.
- Feng Buzhi — Primary enemy. Feng defeats Rajko’s White King-controlled form, captures an incarnation, extracts its power, and ultimately destroys its true body 357 581 583 607.
- Tiger-man Theo — Captive, vessel, and unwilling companion. The White King mistakes Theo for the White Tiger, removes his crystal eye, seizes control of his body, and attempts to use him against Feng Buzhi 545 567.
- Infinite Spiral — Blue Sea Alliance contact who accepts the White King as a reserve member, while suppressing Theo’s consciousness and absorbing the White King’s prior arrangements into the alliance 592 593.
- Rajko — Empowered follower and puppet. The White King’s blessing strengthens Rajko before converting him into a diamond-spider shell 356 357.
- Azure Dragon Broken Fang — Persistent pursuer. The White King uses the Gluttony Fish Swarm and vast spider webs to slow, restrain, and potentially drain him 604 605.
- Gluttony Fish Swarm — Loyal subordinate of the White King that attacks Broken Fang at the White King’s command 604.
- Tigerfolk — Final inheritor of the White King’s remaining assets. After the White King’s true body shatters, the Tigerfolk receives its power, Primordial Cocoon authority, and spider transformation ability 607.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Rajko’s Blessing
The White King first acts through a descending white pillar of light that empowers the lion-man Rajko. After Rajko is defeated by Feng Buzhi, the White King’s power turns him into a diamond-spider puppet and escapes through a spatial white-light phenomenon. Feng gains the title “Malice of the White King” and learns that the White King was once human 356 357.
Capture of Tiger-man Theo
The White King appears in the Primordial Cocoon Abyssal Layer, identifies Theo as the White Tiger, and claims to have awaited him. It removes Theo’s crystal eye—stating that it originally belonged to the White King—and takes control of Theo’s body to use him against Feng Buzhi 545.
Colony Abyss Layer and Earth Star
Using Theo as a controlled companion, the White King infiltrates Colony Abyss Layer and spreads fungal spheres throughout it in an attempt to become its master 567 572 573. It then travels to Earth Star, disguises itself as a human, seeks influence, and attempts to trace little yellow flowers back to Francis, Colony, and Feng Buzhi 577 578.
The yellow flowers instead weaken the White King’s connection to Colony and force it to retreat toward Lorenz Town. There, it infiltrates Lorenz Psychiatric Hospital, devours a staff member, discovers Abyss OL, and is captured by Feng Buzhi 579 581.
Blue Sea Alliance
After its setbacks, an incarnation occupying Theo’s body negotiates with Infinite Spiral and joins the Blue Sea Alliance as a reserve member. In exchange, the White King agrees to surrender its preparations in the Land of Evolution, Black Star, and Purgatory Continent to the alliance 592 593.
Return to the Primordial Cocoon
The incarnation later senses that the White King’s true body and other incarnations have vanished, leaving it as the apparent sole inheritor of the Primordial Cocoon’s greatly increased power 603. It returns to the Primordial Cocoon Abyssal Layer, evades Azure Dragon Broken Fang with the Gluttony Fish Swarm and spider silk, creates backup avatars, and attempts to reclaim the layer’s final power 604 605.
Feng Buzhi intercepts the White King before this plan succeeds. Using Theo as part of his control, Feng mortally wounds the White King, exposes its centuries-old trauma, and extinguishes most of its soul. The remaining ember reaches the Tigerfolk Bus, while the White King’s true body shatters and transfers its power to the Tigerfolk 606 607.
