Vegeta VS Cell, Gohan's Training

"You're my son, so have a little confidence, got it, Gohan?" Goku looked at Gohan with a firm gaze.

Looking into Goku's resolute eyes, Gohan regained his confidence and answered, "Okay, Dad."

"Good. But that's not all. Dad has to gain power beyond that of a Super Saiyan too, because Dad wants to be stronger than anyone else. But don't forget one thing, Gohan! Dad still hopes you can surpass me." As Goku spoke, he looked at Gohan with an indescribable expression—the expectation of a father hoping his son would become stronger than himself. After the father and son had opened their hearts to each other, Goku began training Gohan.

Elsewhere, as Vegeta's aura intensified, golden lightning began to flicker around him. The surrounding rocks were shattered by his energy. The muscles throughout Vegeta's body swelled slightly, making him look much more powerfully built. The ground beneath his feet began to crack, and with a roar from Vegeta, golden energy formed a huge spherical barrier around him. When the light faded, a round crater had appeared beneath him.

After releasing his power, Vegeta let out a soft breath and looked at Cell. Then, Vegeta vanished from where he stood. Before Cell could react, a punch had already landed in his abdomen.

"What's wrong? Dozing off?" Vegeta mocked.

Cell let out a pained cry, but he appeared unharmed as he said, "I didn't expect you to still have so much energy left. But this level of power isn't enough for you to be so proud."

"Is that so?"

Vegeta pulled his hand free from Cell's abdomen and punched him in the jaw again, launching Cell into the sky. Vegeta leaped up after him, drove his knee into Cell's lower back, then punched him in the face.

The dazed Cell recovered and threw a punch at Vegeta. Vegeta ducked beneath it, grabbed Cell by the leg, and hurled him down at the ground. The tremendous force slammed Cell into the edge of the island, sending him and the shattered shoreline sinking into the sea.

"So fast! Vegeta's movements are too fast to even see!" Android 18 said in surprise. After all, Vegeta had been no match for her not long ago, while she had not even seen Ye Bai's speed at all. Hearing her praise another man, Ye Bai tightened his arm slightly and pulled her against him. Android 18 glanced at him, the corners of her lips lifting faintly.

Vegeta landed on the fractured edge and looked down at the sea.

"Hey! Stop playing dead and get out here."

Cell slowly rose from the sea, a faint purple trace at the corner of his mouth diluted by the seawater.

"Come on, fight seriously, Cell!" Vegeta said mockingly.

"Looks like you've got some tricks after all!" As Cell spoke, purple blood flowed from his mouth and down the corner of his lips. He wiped it away with his hand and looked at Vegeta.

Then he shouted and charged forward, throwing a punch at Vegeta's head. Vegeta merely tilted his head slightly and dodged it. Cell threw punch after punch, all of them avoided with the smallest movements of Vegeta's body.

Vegeta advanced as he dodged, while Cell retreated as he attacked. The two created a bizarre scene. After toying with Cell for a moment, Vegeta drove a heavy punch into Cell's face.

Cell flew backward, carving a wave nearly eight feet high across the surface of the sea. He shot from the edge of one island to another, smashing a huge crack through the middle of the smaller island.

Cell flew out of the seawater within the crack splitting the island apart. Vegeta flew over at high speed from the edge of the island opposite him. Cell fired an energy blast at Vegeta, but it was casually knocked away, landing in the distant sea and exploding into a towering splash.

Vegeta vanished in an instant and appeared before Cell, punching at him. Cell raised a hand to block the incoming fist, then struck at Vegeta's chest with his right hand. Vegeta turned aside to dodge and launched himself into the air, kicking Cell in the back.

"Ah—!"

Gohan roared loudly as white waves of energy appeared around his body, but he still could not transform into a Super Saiyan.

"No! This is only making you stronger. Anger is the key to becoming a Super Saiyan," Goku instructed from the side.

"Get angry! Let your emotions explode!"

"But Dad, I just can't get angry." Gohan stood up and spoke to Goku.

"Right, you can use me, Piccolo, or Krillin. Imagine me or one of them being killed by Cell." Goku thought for a moment before speaking.

"But I've never seen Cell." Gohan had just wanted to give it a try, only to realize that he did not know what Cell looked like.

"Oh, right. Then imagine Frieza!" Goku said.

"Dad, I've never seen Frieza either." Gohan thought about it. Because of Ye Bai's involvement, Gohan had never even met Frieza.

"This is really troublesome. Oh! Right, then imagine Android 19 or Android 20." Goku scratched his head, then seemed to think of something and suddenly slammed his right fist into his left palm.

Gohan imagined his father being beaten badly by Android 19. Suddenly, it was as if a hand was helping him, allowing him to see a deeply sorrowful scene. In that scene, his viewpoint was high, level with his father's. Uncle Piccolo stood before him, his chest pierced through by the arm of a black-haired youth. As the youth pulled his arm back, Uncle Piccolo fell before him. Even at the moment of death, Uncle Piccolo told him to run.

"Uncle Piccolo..." Tears flowed from the corners of Gohan's eyes as he roared.

"Uncle Piccolo!"

Gohan roared, and his hair instantly turned golden. Yet moments later, he slumped down weakly, and his hair returned to black.

Cell burst out of the sea, raising a towering curtain of water that concealed his body. Then a tail pierced through the water screen and stabbed toward Vegeta. As Vegeta dodged, Cell rushed out and kicked at him. Vegeta twisted aside, avoiding it, then smashed a fist into Cell's jaw.

Vegeta vanished again, and fist marks continuously appeared across Cell's body. Coming to his senses, Cell raised both hands in front of himself to block, but Vegeta's attacks did not continue.

Cell lowered his hands and saw that Vegeta had not pursued him. Instead, Vegeta stood some distance away, watching him with a mocking smile.

"Damn you, Vegeta. I'll show you what real hell is now," Cell said furiously.

"I'm looking forward to it," Vegeta said disdainfully.

Cell raised a hand before himself as though he were about to power up, but suddenly lowered it and spat a red energy blast from his mouth toward Vegeta. Caught off guard, Vegeta crossed his arms to block, only to find that it was merely an ordinary energy blast with no real power. The moment he lowered his arms, Cell's fist filled his vision.

Vegeta took the punch heavily and was blasted downward, crashing into the island below. The entire island cracked apart from the impact, then, amid a cloud of dust, sank beneath the sea.
