Background / History

Ye Bai was a man from Earth who transmigrated into the Dragon Ball world as a child, retaining memories of the Dragon Ball anime. After meeting Goku in the forest, he moved in with him on Bun Mountain, trained under Goku's guidance, and introduced Goku to the concept of ki. He later joined Goku and Bulma on their Dragon Ball journey. 1 2 3

When Pilaf's group summoned Shenron, Ye Bai intervened and used the wish to acquire Saiyan blood. He subsequently helped stop Goku's uncontrolled Great Ape rampage by arranging for Goku's tail to be cut, but chose not to tell Goku the truth to spare him distress. 5

After parting with Goku, Ye Bai remained with Bulma in East City and pursued increasingly severe training through gravity equipment. He won the Twenty-First World Martial Arts Tournament after overpowering Goku, then sought further development at Korin Tower and Kami's Lookout under Mr. Popo. 6 7 10 11

Ye Bai deliberately did not intervene during King Piccolo's rampage because he believed Goku needed to grow through the crisis.
