Background / History
Former Yan legacy
The Yan Kingdom's name is associated with the Former Yan dynasty, which was destroyed by Great Song. Former Yan's imperial house appears to have borne the Murong surname, and its surviving retainers remained politically relevant long after the dynasty's fall. Former Yan remnants, including a branch led by Murong Liu, later sought refuge with Lu Xingshi's forces. 40 53 95 120
The current Yan Kingdom emerged from Lu Xingshi's Prince Yan Faction rather than being presented as a simple restoration of Former Yan. By the time the faction controlled all of Eastern Ridge, its authority depended heavily on Lu Xingshi's personal strength, supplemented by its talent pool and territory. 121
Eastern Ridge rule and establishment
Eastern Ridge was initially a difficult base: mountainous terrain restricted farming and transport, while miasma and resource shortages hindered development. Lu Xingshi sustained the region with stockpiled food and medicine, accelerated crop and livestock growth, and later sought mineral deposits to support industrialization. 121 151
The faction became known as the Yan Kingdom during its industrial expansion. Early Steam Engine promotion was constrained by insufficient fuel, iron, copper, rubber, and mining capacity, despite the technology's potential for smelting, weaving, and transportation. 151
After Lu Xingshi ascended the throne as Yan Emperor, the Yan Kingdom became a formal imperial state. Its national luck, military power, economy, and cultivation systems were increasingly organized around the Emperor and his Golden Citadel Jade Emperor path. 238 239
Unification and interworld expansion
The Yan Kingdom rapidly expanded into Qi and Song territory after distributing the Golden Book Jade Scroll and perfecting Dual Qi Powered Armor. Within roughly a month, it had occupied more than half of Qi and a portion of Song. 218 219
The Great Abyss Sword Qi and Yellow Sand Poison Fire initially prevented the Yan Army from crossing westward. Lu Xingshi later destroyed these barriers and defeated forty-six Grotto-heaven Ancestor incarnations, allowing the Yan Army to enter the passes and conquer Jin Country. 239 310 311 312
By the time it began developing naval power, the Yan Kingdom had unified All Under Heaven. It subsequently expanded into other worlds, fully occupying Parallel World Number One and advancing through Parallel World Number Two; the integration of the three vast Wild World parallel worlds became a long-term national project. 332 655 664
Government and Society
Central administration
Lu Xingshi is the Yan Kingdom's supreme ruler, but he generally delegates civil administration to Luo Lin. Luo Lin manages official duties, resource allocation, national development, and internal discipline, while Lu Xingshi focuses on cultivation, military deterrence, and external expansion. 235 239
- Lu Xingshi — Yan Emperor; source of the kingdom's national-luck systems and primary military deterrent. 238 310
- Luo Lin — Executive Vice-Emperor; oversees state affairs and implements imperial policy. 217 239
- Pei Ming — senior official and commander of the Sky Fortress; handles military planning and intelligence work. 308
- Tian Fu — Yan Army commander; leads campaigns and oversees conquered territories. 168 311
- Tian Jian — Tian Fu's brother and frontline military powerhouse. 168 311
Control of land and organizations
The Yan Kingdom treats land and major natural resources—including mines, forests, and water sources—as state property. Individuals may receive usage rights for development, but not ownership; illegal land annexation is punishable by execution. 305
Its domestic commercial system is dominated by the state-owned Langya Merchant Guild. Outside merchant guilds found it difficult to operate in Eastern Ridge because the local commercial ecosystem was already occupied by Yan-backed enterprises. 157
The state maintains strict control over the Jianghu and sect forces. Sects permitted to settle in Yan territory could be suppressed, divided, and dismantled, while much of the local Jianghu became staffed by official personnel rather than independent martial artists. 157
Social policy
- Compulsory education is promoted as a means of raising public capability and national Influence Value. 239
- Indentured servitude was being abolished through ongoing reforms. 305
- Citizens who work can expect food and avenues for advancement, though land and resource ownership remains centralized under the state. 305
- Rapid development created concerns that the upper, middle, and lower classes would become disconnected; the leadership's preferred response was external expansion and the redirection of internal pressures. 305 308
National Cultivation System
Golden Citadel Jade Emperor
The Golden Citadel Jade Emperor is Lu Xingshi's cultivation method, built around converting national power and destiny into personal advancement. It also allows the Yan Kingdom's growth to strengthen Lu Xingshi, linking the state's expansion directly to its ruler's power. 217 219
The system does not merely depend on the Yan Kingdom's survival: Lu uses national power as cultivation resources rather than relying on it as his sole foundation. 217
Golden Book Jade Scroll
The Golden Book Jade Scroll is the mass-distributed inheritance derived from the Golden Citadel Jade Emperor. It allows approved Yan citizens to gain power by contributing to the state, regardless of their original Physical Constitution, Comprehension, or Mental Fortitude. 217
- Cultivators gain health-preserving, longevity, body-strengthening, and foundation-consolidating effects. 217
- Greater service to the Yan Kingdom produces faster advancement and can lead to higher enfeoffments. 217 256
- Higher enfeoffments, such as the Three Enclosures, Four Symbols, and Twenty-Eight Mansions, grant more complete access to the system's power. 217
- Meaningful advancement requires remaining tied to the Yan Kingdom and Lu Xingshi; cultivating the method effectively makes one a Yan citizen. 238 256
- The system shifted the kingdom's culture from individual martial prestige toward strengthening the nation through research, work, and True Qi technology. 305 308
Economy, Technology, and Infrastructure
The Yan Kingdom's development was initially driven by increased agricultural output, salt refining, and Steam Engine experimentation. Its productivity allowed it to establish merchant guilds in Song and Qi territory, gaining tax revenue, jobs, and commercial influence outside its borders. 155 157
True Qi Technology later became the foundation of the kingdom's infrastructure and military industry.
- Railways — trains connect Saibei to the Capital and support rapid movement of goods and personnel. 305
- Telegram network — True Qi Voice Transmission enables state and limited commercial communications, though it cannot yet be universally used. 305
- True Qi machinery — industrial and military equipment is powered by True Qi rather than conventional methods. 305 308
- State logistics — the Capital contains a guarded remote warehouse system for allocating food and supplies. 239 240
- Naval development — after unification, the Yan Kingdom invested in shipbuilding and the Penglai Fleet for long-distance maritime operations. 332 335
Armed Forces
The Yan Army evolved from a relatively small, quality-focused force into a technologically advanced military. Its early limitation was population; the Golden Book Jade Scroll and the incorporation of conquered populations helped broaden its military base. 184 180
By its eastward expansion, Yan troops used Dual Qi Powered Armor, Steam Firearms, True Qi Sword Blades, and equipment that allowed ordinary soldiers to rival First-Rate Experts. 218
Ace forces
| Force | Commander | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Three Thousand Iron Cavalry | Tian Fu and Tian Jian | Ground armored force and the Yan Army's foremost breakthrough unit. 308 311 |
| Eight Hundred Tiger Warriors | Song Can | Heavy humanoid-mech force. 308 |
| Sky Fortress | Pei Ming | Massive floating mechanical carrier serving as a war platform, communications base, and logistics center. 308 |
The three ace formations receive roughly eighty percent of the kingdom's military spending. Additional forces, including the Feathered Forest and Imperial Guards, were established after the unification of All Under Heaven. 308 334
Foreign Relations and Expansion
- Former Yan remnants — Former Yan retainers and Murong bloodline branches entered Yan territory or became politically significant under Lu Xingshi's rule. 120 146
- Great Song and Qi Kingdom — temporarily allied with Yan over the Eastern Ridge secret realm, then became targets of Yan expansion; Yan forces occupied much of Qi and part of Song. 157 219
- Jin Country — sought Yan military assistance but was refused troops; after the western barriers fell, the Yan Army conquered Jin amid its internal instability. 216 310 312
- Grotto-heaven forces — obstructed Yan expansion through the Great Abyss Sword Qi and Yellow Sand Poison Fire. Lu Xingshi destroyed the barriers and defeated their incarnations, establishing Yan's ability to contend with them. 224 310
- Wild World populations — conquered primitive populations were integrated as Yan People, given Yan Kingdom inheritances and developmental support, and organized into new units such as the Long Bo reserve. 664
