New Humans in the Security Team

A group of people walked along the main road of the villa district. They wore blue armored defensive suits with a D-Class Defense Rating, capable of withstanding an adult's punches. These suits were precisely the security uniforms custom-made by An Rongru. They carried mismatched bladed weapons, and two of them held C-Class Stun Pistols as they headed toward the security hall.

Within the group, a sturdy, dark-skinned man chatted back and forth with another burly man with a crew cut.

"Of all days, we got assigned patrol duty today. What rotten luck!" the dark, muscular man cursed. "We just happened to run into that huge commotion last night. Captain Hu told us to investigate what happened. If we come across some powerful monster, our lives are done for."

"We might not run into any monsters. We've already cleared out most of the monsters in the villa district. Still, yesterday's disturbance really was a bit much. Luckily, those monsters didn't notice us, or there would've been a bloody fight," the crew-cut man said with lingering fear.

"If we make it back alive today and find some valuable intelligence, Lan Wende's mistress, that female streamer, will be mine." The dark, muscular man burst into laughter. "That Lan Wende used to be some stock market genius, but now he's just a dead dog. What a coward who can't even protect his own woman. To save his own dog life, he even sent his woman to Captain Hu's bed. So this is what they call a successful man? What a joke."

"Tch." The crew-cut man said disdainfully, "Wasn't that bitch Xie Yuan also looking for another backer? These two were the leaders of the group. They had once been security guards in the villa district, but after the world changed, they remained there and banded together under a chief captain, fighting Mutant Monsters while indulging in pleasures they had never dared dream of before.

Mu Xiao and An Rongru pressed themselves against the inner wall of a villa, clearly hearing their obscene conversation.

"As expected, human nature possesses its most terrifying dark side..." Mu Xiao sighed. "Things are developing roughly as I expected. They aren't New Humans with any sense of justice or moral bottom line. They're a group of crooked New Humans controlled by their desires."

Mu Xiao turned to look at An Rongru's pale face. Her eyes were vacant as she leaned weakly against the wall, as though she had seen her daughter fall into this den of demons.

"Maybe it isn't as bad as you imagine." Mu Xiao took her hand and said, "Come on. Once you return home and confirm it yourself, you'll know the answer."

"What if I can't see her? What then?!" An Rongru clutched Mu Xiao's hand tightly, almost hysterically, treating him as her only support and wanting to draw from him the strength to keep going.

Her daughter was all she had. She could disregard anything else, but she could not live without her daughter, nor did she want her daughter to suffer any harm.

Changing the subject, Mu Xiao asked, "What kind of person is this Captain Hu?"

"His full name is Song Tianhu, the chief captain of the security team," An Rongru said. "He used to be an elite soldier, but he committed some offense when he was young and was kicked out of the military. He was already in his thirties when he applied here. I saw that he was mature and steady, without the arrogance of young people, so I hired him as the leader of the security team. I never expected him to be such a deeply calculating man."
