Background

After her husband died of illness, An Rongru inherited his assets and became a prominent figure on the Federation Rich List. Although many attributed her wealth to luck, she managed Jian An Real Estate’s extensive holdings, owned several high-end villa districts and side businesses in the City of Magic, and founded a charity organization that supplied slums. Mu Xiao’s apartment building was one of her properties, making her his unwitting landlady before the apocalypse. 26

As a wealthy widow, she was guarded around men who pursued either her fortune or her body. She avoided much of high society and devoted herself to charitable work in hopes of being valued for more than her inheritance. 26

When the Evolution Frenzy began, her bodyguard locked her inside a room in the Lawyer Building and left to seek help. She survived alone beneath a bed for roughly two days without sufficient food or water, terrified that the next person to find her would be a monster. 25

Appearance

An Rongru is a mature, elegant woman whose refined bearing remains noticeable even after the collapse of civilization. Early in the disaster, she wears a conservative black-and-white dress and white high heels; later, she trades appearance for survival by wearing oversized protective equipment. 25 30

An Rongru begins the apocalypse frightened, exhausted, and deeply attached to the dignity and security her old life afforded her. Her wealth becomes meaningless almost immediately, forcing her to confront that survival depends on personal strength rather than social position. Even while overwhelmed, she retains restraint: after spraining her ankle and collapsing from hunger, she refuses to complain or ask Mu Xiao for help. 26 29

She is perceptive, meticulous, and accustomed to handling important affairs as a businesswoman. Once she gains confidence, she contributes her knowledge of the villa district, recognizes flaws in its defenses, and uses Life Detection to locate threats and survivors. 32 35 43

Her greatest motivation is her daughter, Jian Hanyao. Fear for Hanyao repeatedly drives her to act despite terror, including offering to lure Zombies away and enduring Mu Xiao’s harsh training in order to become stronger. 30 38 43

An Rongru gradually becomes more resilient and self-reliant. She accepts that Mu Xiao’s methods are often severe, but recognizes their purpose in helping her survive. Mu Xiao finds An Rongru hiding beneath a bed in the Lawyer Building. Her money cannot persuade him to protect her, but he notices her awakening potential and chooses to test whether she can become useful in the new world. 25 26

He exposes her to Zombies, secretly slows the attackers with Telekinesis, and forces her to confront the despair she had avoided. The experience awakens her New Human bloodline but also pushes her into a hysterical breakdown while harvesting Blood Beads from corpses. 27 28

Journey to the Villa District

After accepting Mu Xiao’s protection and authority, An Rongru guides him toward her villa district, which he considers a possible overt base while retaining the Lawyer Building as a covert one. She receives weapons, armor, and treatment for her injured ankle. 29 30

During the flight from the Guard Mutant Human, she evolves from a frightened passenger into an active combatant, learning to throw grenades under Mu Xiao’s direction. 31

Guard Mutant Human Battle

An Rongru provides the security hall as a refuge, but its powerless Supermagnetic Lock leaves a fatal weakness in the main entrance. When the Guard Mutant Human attacks her directly, she nearly loses hope and prepares to take her own life rather than be devoured. 32 33

Mu Xiao returns, and An Rongru supports him against the Zombie horde. Her use of the Thunderbolt Cannon detonates nearby vehicles, destroys most of the Zombies, and creates the opening Mu Xiao needs to kill the Guard Mutant Human. Her contribution earns her the Life Detection Ability Source. 34 35

Training and Partnership

With Life Detection, An Rongru becomes capable of concealing the pair’s auras and contributing to their nighttime survival. Mu Xiao then subjects her to intense will-tempering pressure to force the awakening of her latent ability and harden her resolve. 35 38

Their relationship becomes intimate, though An Rongru asks to delay further commitment until she learns her daughter’s fate. Mu Xiao accepts her boundary while making clear that he expects her to grow into a fighter and partner. 37 41

Reunion with Jian Hanyao

An Rongru’s Life Detection confirms that Jian Hanyao is alive in their villa. She helps Mu Xiao infiltrate the property, then reunites emotionally with her daughter after Mu Xiao resolves a violent misunderstanding with Hanyao. 43 45

She conceals her relationship with Mu Xiao from Hanyao at first, attempting to protect her daughter from further emotional turmoil. 45

Villa District Conflict
