Mother and Daughter Reunite
Outside the villa, An Rongru waited anxiously. She had been using "Life Detection" to observe Jian Hanyao's life force while also keeping watch over the changes in Mu Xiao's. When she discovered that her daughter's aura had suddenly met Mu Xiao's, and that her daughter's aura had surged as the two life forces clashed, she immediately understood what had happened.
An Rongru did not need to think hard to know that the two of them must have fought. She knew Mu Xiao was a measured person and would never strike first, especially since he should know the girl's identity. Therefore, her daughter must have started the conflict.
An Rongru guessed that Jian Hanyao had probably mistaken Mu Xiao for one of those ill-intentioned guards outside and attacked him because of it. All she could do was pray that Mu Xiao had not hit too hard and injured Jian Hanyao. She was even more afraid that her daughter's relationship with Mu Xiao would turn hostile afterward, making it difficult for her to reveal her own relationship with Mu Xiao.
Only when Mu Xiao knocked down Jian Hanyao's "Stronger When Facing Strength" ability did the aura around her naturally calm. It had even weakened considerably. An Rongru noticed this and worried whether her daughter had been hurt, but when she sensed the two of them heading toward the fifth floor, she understood that they must have reconciled. Her tense heart finally relaxed.
What An Rongru did not know was that Mu Xiao truly wanted to crush the sharp-tongued girl behind him to death right now.
"I don't care what my mother asked of you or what she promised you, but let me warn you seriously: don't get any ideas about my mother. Otherwise, I'll be your enemy for the rest of my life." Jian Hanyao's soft, lovely face was filled with an utterly incongruous savage hostility. The gentle princess-like aura around her had turned into wild arrogance, without the slightest elegance expected of a refined young lady.
The title Violent Princess had not been given to her for nothing.
Mu Xiao remembered that in the future era of evolution, Jian Hanyao had been a famous Newhuman powerhouse and the strongest female general under the Flame Queen.
Even Mu Xiao had to admit that she was an exceptionally gifted Newhuman. She possessed the innate ability "Stronger When Facing Strength," a talent perfectly suited for cultivating Source Force Martial Arts. It would grant her terrifying combat power that allowed her to kill enemies above her level. In close combat especially, she possessed peerless battle instincts. Among Newhuman powerhouses of the same rank, few had ever defeated her; at best, they could only draw with her.
Moreover, every powerhouse who had managed to draw with her had been one of the foremost experts of major factions, renowned Newhuman powerhouses in the outside world.
Yet in the future, aside from her reputation for overwhelming combat strength, she had another resounding nickname—the Violent Princess. She had the innocent, delicate face of a princess, yet possessed combat power more violent and terrifying than that of most men. Gradually, the outside world gave her that strange title.
"Are you deaf, or are you something that can't understand human speech?" Jian Hanyao could not stand Mu Xiao's dismissive attitude.
Mu Xiao turned around and gave her a strange look. With hidden meaning in his words, he said, "I really don't know how you managed to survive until now."
Indeed, with such a venomous mouth, Mu Xiao could not imagine how she had climbed step by step onto the path of the strong without being blasted into scraps by other Newhumans.
"At least I didn't rely on men like you beasts." Jian Hanyao sneered and quickened her pace up to the fifth floor to find her mother.
If she finds out I've practically already taken her mother, I wonder if she'll fight me to the death.
Mu Xiao finally understood why An Rongru had the foresight to keep their relationship hidden and not tell her daughter. She was afraid that this unreasonable daughter of hers, filled with violent impulses and blessed with an atrocious temperament, would erupt into a fit too troublesome to handle.
"Are you a turtle?! You walk this slowly after such a short distance? Hurry—"
Jian Hanyao had already caught sight of her mother below. Her heart was overflowing with excitement and joy, but when she turned around and saw Mu Xiao strolling along at a snail's pace, she could not help snapping at him.
But before she could finish, Mu Xiao's icy gaze met hers. A dark, frenzied killing pressure descended upon her, its berserk momentum as overwhelming as landslides and tsunamis. It nearly materialized as it struck her soul. In an instant, her mind and will were shattered, all strength drained from her body, and her legs gave way. Her face went deathly pale as she dropped to her knees.
"Watch your tone from now on. Before you have the strength, when facing someone stronger than yourself, you should remain humble. Otherwise, death will be your end." Mu Xiao's eyes were deep and devoid of emotion. His voice was like a cold wind from the underworld, filled with ruthless, concealed killing intent.
Jian Hanyao's face was white as paper, her gaze unsteady. Boundless terror rose from the depths of her heart. Cold sweat soaked through her clothes as she knelt helplessly on the floor, trembling.
Mu Xiao ignored her terror-stricken state. After all, if he did not teach her a lesson, making this violent woman submit to him in the future would be even more difficult.
Outside the villa, An Rongru had no idea what had happened inside. Her heart was filled only with joy at seeing her daughter safe and sound. When Mu Xiao jumped down from the window, her mature, flower-like face still held a gentle and kind smile. But after hearing what Mu Xiao said next, she could no longer smile.
"Your daughter is a highly promising Newhuman, but I don't want you to indulge her too much. Otherwise, she may go down the wrong path—and die sooner because of it. So I taught her a small lesson just now." As Mu Xiao spoke to An Rongru, he activated the repaired hover disk, which became a large platform with railings.
"She isn't hurt, is she?" An Rongru's delicate brows furrowed as she said worriedly, "Hanyao isn't bad by nature. It's just that her father left early when she was young, so she became overly independent and mature. She did not have many friends, much less any close confidants. And I spoiled her too much in the past, which is why she developed such a willful, arrogant personality."
"Xiao, I hope you can help her grow and let her live well in this world." Her tender, captivating eyes revealed a pleading look. Her lovely face shone with maternal warmth, making even the most hard-hearted person unable to bear refusing her.
"Don't worry." Mu Xiao's star-like eyes gazed at An Rongru's beautiful, dignified face. "As long as she is willing to follow in my footsteps, I'm confident I can forge her into a super Newhuman powerhouse."
Mu Xiao knew very well the evolutionary path the future Violent Princess, Jian Hanyao, would take. During the war in which the Moon and Earth ignited into true conflict, Mu Xiao had fought beside this Violent Princess for some time, so he had a rough understanding of her cultivation and evolution. She was simply far too young now, lacking the mature, icy, peerless charm she would possess in the future.
However, in the future era of evolution, most Newhuman powerhouses were first-generation Newhumans from the beginning of the apocalypse—the very period to which Mu Xiao had been reborn.
The Newhumans of this time, as long as they managed to survive, would all become somewhat famous evolvers. Mu Xiao was a first-generation Newhuman, and Jian Hanyao was one as well. Therefore, it was not strange for people from the same generation and era to know something about one another.
Having received Mu Xiao's personal promise, An Rongru smiled in relief. It felt as though her life finally had something to rely on.
"Let's go up first. We can look into everything else later. The trouble in the villa district hasn't been fully cleared yet." Mu Xiao stepped onto the hover disk and reached out to take An Rongru's soft hand.
An Rongru nodded gently, clasped Mu Xiao's outstretched hand, and stepped onto the hover disk.
Once she was standing securely, Mu Xiao pressed the activation button beneath his foot. The hover disk rose steadily and slowly.
"Mom!"
The moment Jian Hanyao saw An Rongru enter, her nimble body threw itself into her mother's warm embrace. Tears she could no longer suppress streamed down like a small brook, and soon she began to sob softly, as though all the helplessness, fear, worry, and even the grievance of being "bullied" by Mu Xiao over the past days had poured out with her tears.
"It's good that you're all right, Hanyao. Mom is truly happy and relieved, and grateful that heaven has watched over us." Tears shimmered in An Rongru's beautiful eyes as she gently soothed Jian Hanyao's emotions.
Jian Hanyao raised her delicate, pretty little face, covered in tears like pear blossoms in the rain. Her pitiful appearance made others want to protect her.
But her teeth ground together loudly as her slender jade finger pointed straight at Mu Xiao, who had entered through the window. She said viciously, "Mom, did this guy lay a hand on you? Did he make any filthy demands of you? Tell me everything. If he did, then even if it costs me my life, I'll kill him!"
"Hanyao, watch your mouth. You can't speak to Mr. Xiao... like that." An Rongru's breathtakingly beautiful cheeks flushed with a seductive red, and her heart raced wildly. Mu Xiao truly had laid his hands on her last night—everywhere on her body—but how could she tell her daughter something so shameful and private?
"Mom! Did you sleep with him?!" Jian Hanyao's little face was filled with fury as she shouted excitedly. Seeing an embarrassed expression her mother had never worn before, if she still did not understand, then she would truly be as dull as a pig.
"No, no!" An Rongru shook her head and waved her hands anxiously.
"Really?" Jian Hanyao saw that An Rongru answered without hesitation, though she looked nervous. She knew her mother was not good at lying in front of her and had never deceived her. The anger rising in her heart gradually subsided, though her gaze toward Mu Xiao remained full of wariness and vigilance.
"Of course it's true." An Rongru held Jian Hanyao close, comforting her sensitive heart as she had in the past. She did not want her to keep asking, nor did she want her to see the shy look in her eyes whenever she looked at Mu Xiao.
Mu Xiao watched the mother and daughter speechlessly. It was as though An Rongru was the daughter while Jian Hanyao was the mother—one lacking a mother's authority, the other lacking a daughter's gentleness. Mu Xiao also found that Jian Hanyao truly was someone unafraid of death. Though he had just warned her, she still showed no restraint, remaining all fangs and claws.
"Your mother-daughter reunion is indeed touching." Mu Xiao broke the warm atmosphere in the room. "But the threats lurking outside have yet to be dealt with."
Upon hearing this, An Rongru and Jian Hanyao both shuddered at the same time.
