Peak Golden Immortal 29 After sixty thousand years on Kunlun under Yuanshi's instruction, he nurtured the five qi in his chest in preparation for a Taiyi breakthrough.

Background / History

Six Ears first appeared stranded amid chaotic currents while trying to locate Purple Cloud Palace. Although only an Earth Immortal, he had endured the chaos by using his innate hearing to seek a direction. Xuan Heng recognized that Six Ears's ability could cause his cultivation path to be severed if he secretly heard a Sage's teachings, and stopped him from continuing toward the palace 9 10.

Xuan Heng accepted him as a registered disciple under three conditions: refine his innate qi before seeking further instruction, restrain his ears and never eavesdrop on mighty cultivators or return to Purple Cloud Palace, and never travel under Xuan Heng's name. Xuan Heng then placed world-purifying white light in Six Ears's brow, allowing him to experience silence and relief from the chaotic sounds that had plagued him since birth 10.

After disregarding his master's warnings and eavesdropping on Witch Clan patrol movements, Six Ears wandered into Mount Imperfection. Mistaken for a Demon Race spy, he was hunted by Witch warriors and nearly killed before Xuan Heng intervened. He acknowledged that he had overrelied on his hearing, and Xuan Heng lent him the Six Pure Roots Bamboo to help restrain it 24 25.

During Xuan Heng's long absence, Six Ears remained on Kunlun and received instruction from Yuanshi. He became substantially steadier, reached the peak of the Golden Immortal realm, and learned to distinguish what he should hear from what he should ignore 29.

Appearance

Six Ears is a golden-furred macaque distinguished by his six exceptionally sensitive ears. After being pursued through Mount Imperfection, his golden fur was left soaked in blood from his injuries 24.

  • Golden macaque form 24
  • Six ears capable of perceiving sounds across vast distances 9 66
  • Often carries the Six Pure Roots Bamboo 29 66

Personality

Six Ears is naturally curious, excitable, and eager to learn. His urge to hear everything around him initially made him reckless, leading him to seek Purple Cloud Palace's teachings and later to eavesdrop on Witch Clan movements despite Xuan Heng's explicit orders 10 25.

He gradually becomes more disciplined under Xuan Heng's, Yuanshi's, and Tongtian's guidance. By the time he travels with Kong Xuan, he deliberately avoids listening to discussions of the Dao among great powers and recognizes the limits imposed by his innate gift 29 37 66.

He is also loyal to Xuan Heng despite Zhunti exploiting his insecurity over being only a nominal disciple. When the Western Saints attempted to recruit him, Six Ears ultimately remained with Kunlun 47 48.

Abilities & Skills

Innate Auditory Perception

Six Ears can hear an extraordinary range of sounds, using his ears to gather intelligence and detect danger.

  • Heard distant sounds throughout Kunlun and detected a hidden attacking treasure during his spar with Duobao 29.
  • Can hear events within several hundred li, including spirit creatures, waterways, cave locations, and local disturbances 66.
  • Used his hearing to identify the presence of humans and lesser demons in the rift valley 66.
  • His ability is dangerous when uncontrolled, as unwanted sounds and forbidden teachings can destabilize his Dao heart or draw calamity 10 25 49.

Six-Sense Restraint

Six Ears cultivates methods designed to turn his innate hearing from a liability into a controlled ability.

  • Xuan Heng's world-purifying white light temporarily quieted the overwhelming sounds around him 10.
  • The Six Pure Roots Bamboo filters external noise, allowing him to hear only what he chooses to hear 25.
  • The Heart-Reflecting Chapter of the Profound Pure Immortal Art calms his heart and can eventually produce Profound Pure Dao-Protecting Light 32.
  • After two thousand years of cultivation, he reached the introductory stage of the Heart-Reflecting Chapter and resisted listening to Tongtian's sword ringing during a test 37.

Cultivation and Combat

Six Ears is a Golden Immortal cultivator whose combat style relies on sensory awareness, evasion, and spiritual treasures rather than direct offensive power.

  • Sparred with Duobao using the Six Pure Roots Bamboo and used his hearing to counter an attack from behind 29.
  • His awareness helps him track opponents' movements, though Kong Xuan notes that Six Ears is primarily suited to gathering information and evading techniques 70.
  • Was instructed by Xuan Heng to stabilize his gains before seeking an opportunity to enter the Primordial Unity realm 61.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Six Pure Roots Bamboo — A treasure lent by Xuan Heng to suppress Six Ears's six senses and filter unwanted sounds. Xuan Heng will formally bestow it only after Six Ears truly learns restraint 25.
  • Mysterious Origin Water-Control Banner — Used during the rift-valley rescue to redirect groundwater away from the Five-Colored Stones stabilizing the valley 66.
  • Profound Pure Dao-Protecting Light — A protective method cultivated through the Heart-Reflecting Chapter that restores clarity when outside sounds, illusions, Sha Qi, karma, or demonic influences disturb the Dao heart 32.
