Background / History

Kong Xuan was raised among a remnant branch of the Phoenix Clan in a parasol tree grove. Though the clan had declined following the Dragon-Phoenix Calamity, he remained its young master and refused Demon Marshal Yu Chi's demand that the Phoenix Clan submit to the Demon Court. His resistance was supported by his innate Five-Colored Divine Light, but using that power aggravated the fire-baleful karmic burden inherited through the Phoenix Clan. 41 42

Xuan Heng intervened against Yu Chi, exposed the karmic chain bound to Kong Xuan's origin, and offered to gradually suppress it. Kong Xuan accepted discipleship only after securing Xuan Heng's promise that the Phoenix Clan would remain independent of Kunlun; once strong enough, he could return to protect his people. 41 42

During the journey to Kunlun, Kong Xuan received the first volume of the Profound Pure Immortal Art. His exceptional comprehension allowed him to enter meditation within three months and develop a Dao-protecting intent within half a year, easing the instability caused by his divine light. 42

At Kunlun, Xuan Heng periodically refined Kong Xuan's karmic burden. After ten extractions over roughly a thousand years, the weakest outer layer was removed, allowing Kong Xuan to use the Five-Colored Divine Light in simple situations without backlash. Xuan Heng later removed a deeper strand at considerable personal risk, then removed Kong Xuan's mid-level Phoenix Clan karmic burden during a ten-thousand-year period of instruction. 44 45 61

Kong Xuan and Six Ears resisted Zhunti and Receiving Guide's attempt to recruit them to the West. Although Zhunti exploited Kong Xuan's concern that Xuan Heng might be harmed while treating his karma, Kong Xuan remained loyal to his master and Kunlun. 47 49

After receiving extensive instruction from Xuan Heng, Kong Xuan traveled the Primordial World with Six Ears. At a rift valley, he protected humans and preserved the key Five-Colored Stones stabilizing the terrain, taking only loose outer stones and fragments. 61 65 66

Kong Xuan is a youthful Phoenix Clan cultivator with sharp, cold eyes and a proud bearing. He is first seen in five-colored feathered robes, with Five-Colored Divine Light manifesting behind him. 40 41

He is notably disciplined during Xuan Heng's long seclusion, maintaining daily practice and insisting that a master's seclusion does not excuse a disciple from cultivating. 70
