Background / History

Piccolo trained with Goku and Gohan after Future Trunks's warning about the androids. While Trunks privately explained the future to Goku, Piccolo overheard the entire conversation from a distance. He later revealed Trunks's identity as Vegeta and Bulma's future son when the secret could no longer be kept. 1 2 14

During the Android conflict, Piccolo quickly identified Android 19's energy-absorption ability and warned Goku not to use ki attacks or allow the androids to grab him. Android 20 later ambushed Piccolo and drained his energy, but Piccolo telepathically alerted Gohan, recovered with a Senzu Bean, removed his weighted cape and turban, and decisively defeated Android 20. 8 9 12

To face the emerging threat of Cell, Piccolo accepted permanent fusion with Kami. He investigated Cell's attacks on civilians, discovered the monster carried the ki of numerous familiar warriors, and fought it despite being shocked by its copied techniques. After Cell drained his arm, Piccolo manipulated the arrogant android into explaining his origins and goal before regenerating the damaged limb. 25 28

As Cell pursued Android 17, Piccolo confronted Android 17 to delay both the androids and Cell's evolution. Their battle remained evenly matched until Cell arrived with power far beyond either fighter. Piccolo continued fighting despite exhaustion, shielded Android 17 from Cell, and was fatally wounded while trying to give the android a chance to escape. Malvis later confirmed that Piccolo still lived, though only barely. 33 40

After recovering, Piccolo trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, traveled to New Namek with Goku and Trunks, and explained the need for a new guardian to restore Earth's Dragon Balls. Malvis then used Porunga to unlock Piccolo's hidden potential. 49 51

Following the Cell crisis, Piccolo remained at Kami's Lookout rather than settling into ordinary life. He is also calculating under pressure. While Cell believed Piccolo had accepted defeat, Piccolo used the conversation to extract information about Cell's creation, future origin, and plan to absorb Androids 17 and 18. 27 28

Though proud and often severe, Piccolo is fiercely protective. He risked himself to restrain Android 17, then sacrificed himself to create an opening for Android 17's escape when Cell overwhelmed them. 33 40 His later life at Kami's Lookout reflects his continued commitment to guarding Earth without seeking recognition. 106
