Escalating Conflict (Part One)

The moment those words were spoken, Sentinel Prime, who had sat silently in the military command center for a long time, suddenly spoke.

"Frenzy? The Decepticon you mentioned before, the one from the Cassette Corps?"

Noticing his teacher's gaze fall on him, Optimus Prime frowned slightly.

He knew all too well about his teacher's hostility toward the Decepticons.

Back then, in order to wrest power from the nobles controlling the Elder Council, Sentinel Prime had personally elevated Megatron, then merely a gladiatorial slave, to the position of Cybertron's military commander.

Sentinel Prime then made much of Megatron's slave background, greatly shaking the prestige of the Elder Council and the noble ruling class behind it.

Later, when the nobles struck back, Sentinel Prime had no choice but to join forces with Megatron once again, crushing and dissolving the Elder Council completely in the name of revolution.

It could be said that Megatron and the later Decepticon Corps had been personally cultivated and created by Sentinel Prime out of political necessity.

The peaceful days did not last long. Soon after the revolution, Megatron, whose power had grown considerably, stabbed Sentinel Prime in the back before he had fully absorbed the nobles' authority.

Having won over many former Cybertronian nobles and soldiers during the war, Megatron formed the Decepticon Corps and, catching Sentinel Prime off guard, swiftly seized several vital military fortresses and industrial bases.

By now, Optimus Prime no longer needed to consider whether, had Megatron not chosen betrayal first, his teacher Sentinel Prime would have settled accounts with Megatron after fully absorbing the power surrendered by Cybertron's nobles.

Megatron's betrayal, along with the millions of years of war between the Decepticon Corps and the Autobots, had long made the Decepticons and Autobots irreconcilable blood enemies.
